I'm Grateful For...
« on: Sat, 13 July 2013, 12:01:57 »
There is a lot of buying and selling that goes on within the GeekHack community and sometimes things don't go exactly as planned, or a deal goes sideways. It can be frustrating and GH provides us with an outlet in which to share that frustration. This thread is different.

Share An Example Of Awesome
Has someone gone out of their way to give you something unexpected? It could be a simple act of kindness, it could be free swag, but what ever it is, this thread is a way to show just how awesome the GeekHack community is and share your experience.

I'll go first!

I'm very grateful to WhiskyTango.

I ordered a small supply of vintage MX-Black switches and springs from him and unfortunately, USPS failed to deliver the package, even though it had tracking enabled. I figured that they were lost to the postal gremlins and that I would have to order them again some time in the future. WhiskyTango had other ideas.

Without asking, he volunteered to replace my order. I didn't ask him to, nor was it expected, because none of it was his fault, but he insisted. The most he would allow me to do is pay for the shipping, which I was more than happy to.

My replacement order arrived yesterday and not only did he replace the switches, but he also replaced the 100 springs that I had ordered as well. Completely unexpected.

Thank you WhiskyTango!

Sir moose in all the stuff I bought from him put in a few extra surprises!!  :o

And sir bunny has always tried to look out form me.
8)

I have also received some 'free' items from a few members and/or some really, really cheap things also.

It's always cool when you tell someone you like what they made and they just up and send you one!! (You guys know who you are!!)
:p

And I have gotten a few extra keycaps from techkeys here and there!!!

I have received innumerable amounts of information/help from people in posts and through PM's as well!

I know those aren't very specific but I didn't want to get too carried away

Many people have been wonderful!  I too have had really excellent experience with getting switches from WhiskyTango.  A couple of members here have included extra novelty caps with trades.  SamWiseKoi sorted out my DSA Retro issues even though they were not his fault and he did not have to!  I helped someone with keyboard painting tips, and they sent me caps I had wanted for a long time! (though I did send some others back to compensate a bit!)  It's been great, as often on-line sales / trades can be very stressful (I'm looking at you, Craigslist!), but many people here really try to make it a pleasant experience instead :)

I am grateful to whomever sent me my Hack Orange in the Secret Santa (I'm also grateful to Bunny for running it) and generous unknown person I thank you and if you ever want dibs on something from CtrlAltStore (Sold by me) tell Bunny so you still remain annonymous to me (unless you want to come clean >.>)
unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)

I'm grateful for plenty of things. I just can't recall many of them. I'll name a few that stick out in my mind.

1. Mashby - for being extremely helpful with some case measurements. Thank you once again for this, you helped solve the mystery of the duck poker.
2. CPTBadAss - for looking over my files and always being encouraging. Mostly the second part as it made me more confident with my designs. For that I can't thank you enough.
3. People who've given me small items that I needed for free. Hellocodes gave me a free stabiliser wire and even paid for the shipping to the UK. Nubbinator gave me a free pause/break key. Just to name a few..
4. Last, but not least, bunny. You've made the community a better place.
5. And how could I ever forget that wacky fella dubsgalore. The only true American LAD I've ever met.

I've definitely got to give thanks to the following people:

- Jocelyn:  She was my Secret Santa and the first person to really make me feel like part of the community.  She's awesome, friendly, generous, and one of my favorite people in here...if just a little stressed right now because of her big move.

- CPTBadAss - An all around awesome guy who is always giving something to the community, whether it's knowledge, a helping hand, or sending out little gifts to people.  He's been a sounding board for me, encourages me with all my little experiments and side projects I do, and has donated stuff to giveaways for no other reason than the goodness of his heart.

- BunnyLake - Always a cool and upbeat guy.  I bought a cap from him a while back that never made it and he sent me something like 3 or 4 new ones to replace it.  He also let me work out a barter with him for part of my Miami set since I could only afford the Alphas.  Hope that wood handled key cap puller gets to you soon and that you love it Bunny.

Jocelyn - was the first person to PM me about keyboards and stuff when I was asking on the beginners thread and got me into the hobby.

Smallfry and CPTBadAss - They were the people who would answer any questions I had at the beginning of this hobby and helped me learn quite a bit... R.I.P. Smallfry... :(

Esoomynona - Sent my a nice goody bag for no reason but to be nice, included stickers, lube, etc... :D

BunnyLake - For being a great part of the community from what I've seen with all of his auctions and donations to other members in need as well as hosting all these group buys with like no profit!

Meeba - A real cool guy to talk to and hosts really fun Meebcasts!

Binge - Anther cool guy who's awesome to talk to over in IRC.

Dubsgalore - A cool guy who's been offering me to play games with him and some other Geekhackers, but I've always been busy, sleepy, or had a friend over during offers.

TheFlyingRaccoon - He loaned me his switch tester and traded his 420 cap with me! :D

Soarer not only for his converter but also for being super-helpful in finding bugs and answering even the dumbest questions really fast, and generally heloping out other people with his profound knowledge.

IvanLysolovich for his groupbuys, but especially for his remarkable understanding and support of all things ISO and international.

1. Thx to the mods for the time they invest making GH such a nice place.
2. Thx to all of you that share your passion and knowledge of keyboards.
3. Thx to all of you that runs group buys and invest their own time running them and answering 2000 questions.
4. Thx to all of those that do some giveaway, contests or any other cool thing just so we all have some fun!

I have to agree with this, particularly #1. There is an untold amount of time and energy poured into this site from every corner.

And to Soarer especially, who made it possible for me to find and use my dream keyboard.

I also must call out the eventually-to-be-nearly-forgotten name Ripster, who contributed vast content that educated many of us, who were new here a few years ago, but then so completely "lost it"

To this day I am perplexed by the bizarreness of that change.
"It's 110, but it doesn't feel it to me, right. If anybody goes down. Everybody was so worried yesterday about you and they never mentioned me. I'm up here sweating like a dog. They don’t think about me. This is hard work.
Do you feel the breeze? I don't want anybody going on me. We need every voter. I don't care about you. I just want your vote. I don't care."
