My new Pure, non-clicking mx-white.
« on: Sat, 22 June 2013, 17:28:30 »
My #1 key feels like an mx black. There's no bump no click. Can anyone make a suggestion other than desoldering? I can't solder for ****. I don't want to return this board, but I will if I have to.. I didn't spend money for something I'm not happy with. I love everything else about this board... however the right shift key has a large crack in the center of it.. anyway, that's a subject for a different day.
I hate everything.

Sounds like a defective switch.  Not much you can do other than open it up and seeing if it can be fixed or replacing it.  I can't remember, does Pure have a backplate?  If the switches are PCB-mounted, you can easily open them up / replace a switch without desoldering.

ETA: I think it's PCB-mounted.  Here's a video on how to open up PCB-mounted switches:

And WhiteFireDragon has some great detailed videos on youtube of switches up-close, and how to open them.

It's pcb mounted, but it has leds so I'm assuming it can't be opened in this way. I guess I'll just return it. The broken shift + this really shat upon my happiness.

Oh, LEDs... Yeah, the LED has to be desoldered first :(
If it also has a broken shift, I'd definitely ask for an exchange / return, if you can't fix them yourself!

Eh, thanks for the help Photoelectric. I messaged Mechanicalkeyboards.com to see if I could just do an exchange. I really like the board, just not satisfied with a broken switch and a cracked shift haha. Honestly if it were a breaking-in issue or something with the #1 switch I'd keep it. I game so I keybind to the #1 and it just feels odd. I could live with the shift issue.

If it's MechanicalKeyboards, they should hopefully be good to you with an RMA for this :)  A broken Shift alone is a valid reason to RMA a board.

Maybe you could remove the switch cover with the LED by modding the switch cover. Check out WFD's video.

I'd try MK.com's customer service for a resolution first before modifying anything.

Yeah I messaed MK. I just tried to use compressed air while holding the switch down. It feels like the actuator (?) within the switch is just "stuck" at the bottom. I would really like to fix this myself without involving them mainly because I'm super impatient and don't want to wait on a new one to be mailed haha. Oh well.

That's probably the best way of going about things.
