Sell Ducky 9087 Shine II to Buy Poker II?
« on: Tue, 16 July 2013, 18:26:13 »
The more I look at Poker II's the more I want one but I cannot justify spending $110 on an additional keyboard when I would only use one of them at any given time...
I'm just looking for some feedback on my decision. Convince me to follow through or not.

Here's what I mainly use my keyboard for on my desktop:
-browsing the internet
-typing papers
-programming
-photoshop
-solidworks

Do it.

You wouldn't be asking us if you didn't want it.

Here's how you find out.

Flip a coin.

Which one are you hoping it lands on.

Welcome to Geekhack!

The 60% layout is not for everyone.

If you find you are a heavy user of function keys or arrow keys, you might quickly become frustrated with the smaller layout where you have to press multiple keys to get these functions.

You could always buy one and try it.

Either you don't like it, in which case you should post a bit more and sell it in Classifieds (you need at least 60 posts).

Or you do like it, in which case post a bit more and sell the Ducky in Classifieds.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Just my 2 cents,

I program and i would not be able to live without my function keys and the ins/home/del etc keys. These save me alot of time with shortcuts etc.

The smallest i would considering is TKL, but that is me

I had a poker for a while, but it is definitely not for heavy Photoshop use. I am now considering a TKL or full-size. [looks like YOTS might be my best bet right now]

As much as I loved the aesthetics and form factor, it was not suitable for my needs. I always found myself wanting to love it, but it was more of a hindrance than a help.

I may return to 60% later on just for fun, but right now I need a daily driver. :D

I also have a Ducky Shine II TKL and a Poker 2. What's funny is that I also program and an avid gamer.  :))

To be honest, I dont think the Poker 2 would replace my ducky shine tkl or even my old steelseries 7g. Having all the keys in a small 66 key layout is nice, but I've found some inconveniences that would make it not worth while.

I use the F keys as hotkeys in starcraft 2 and having the island keys (insert, delete, etc) help me work faster. despite them being in the Fn keys, its just too much hassle to do without looking down for me.

In the end, its all about your preference. Are you okay with saving some desk space at the cost of having your island as functions?

Might want to consider a TKL since its still smaller and you'll have the benefit of the island keys. I feel like those are more suitable as a space saving "replacement" if you're shopping for a smaller main-stay keyboard...but again: its preference.
