Board Testing Rituals

When you're presented with a new board and you want to know how well it will work for you, what do you do to it or type on it as a standard test run of the board?

The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. Repeat ad infinitum.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

I type Versace about 1000x times ;)

Honestly I just use the board for whatever it usually doesn't take long to realize if it's a 'Yay!' or a 'Yuck!'

I do usually run a keyboard through this to make sure the switches register

I just spam randomly on the home row at first then type whatever pops into my head at the time. I want to feel the switches first then try actually typing something out.

I just try it for a while, not really caring about what I type. For me the key is to use it for an extended period of time. Some things can seem great at first, but quickly issues and things you do not like about it become more apparent the longer you use them. Can also go the other way around. Some things you do not seem to like at first will grow on you.

Alright, I went through all of the old thread on this topic and I've got a concern

In all the layout variants I've been perusing in the last few days, there really isn't much difference between the locations of the letters (I know there can be and people have, but roll with me for a second).  It's mainly changing Fn's, enter sizes, shifts and generally the peripheries.  Do you think the best way to test out all that stuff would just be to call shots?

"I am now going to press right shift"
Did i get it?
(so on and so forth)

I am so confused.

Are you wanting to physically check and keyboard to see that it works?

Or are you pursuing new layouts you want to test like on paper, in cardboard, prototyping stuff?

Sorry, I'm talking about testing actual boards with different layouts

All the talk on the last thread seemed to be centered around the feel of the switches

Obviously the letters are what you're using all the time, but as a result, good test text to type is already well fleshed out.  I want something like 'the quick brown fox... ' for determining how I like how the keys other than the letters are oriented.

Did that make it any clearer XD

Kind of, I just say you have to use the board for a few days in your normal routine.
