After recently landing into a nice side transcription job and trying out my friend's DAS keyboard, I went straightaway and purchased myself two Cherry MX 8000 keyboards (G80-8200LUAUS-2) with brown switches for home and work.

The first keyboard is a bit beat and is missing about 8 translucent caps from its "relegendable" keys, but the other is in perfect condition with a lot, if not all, of its relegendable keys.  I'm just wondering if I struck a good deal for the pair because if I include shipping... I paid $28 for the first and $48 for the second keyboard.  My friend also told me they will sound different compared to his keyboard because they're more older (possibly due to a lack in plate-mounting?), but I don't think I'll mind

Anything I should do when I receive them?  Lube them?  Clean them a certain way?

Will I have any problems adding custom key caps?  Any key cap recommendations (I'm really into red, grey, and vintage beige keys)?

Sorry for the bombardment of questions guys.

Thanks.

Well the first one was certainly a decent deal, They can be had for less, but I say $28 is a good price for a cherry keyboard, and it certainly seems to be in good shape. Speaking of which, the second more expensive one appears to be in excellent shape!

I really like cherry's POM keycaps, but the raised lasering sometimes gets to me.

Keep in mind these are most probably 2KRO, but should hold up relatively well through the years. And for what you paid, you can probably make that back if you ever sell them to upgrade.

One good part about these cherry POS keyboards is that they maintain pretty good compatability with keycap sets, as they have the same keys as a standard costar design (like the filco, wasdkeyboard, etc). The only difference is the spacebar, which is offcentered, and should with with a "universal" spacebar that is now common to see in sets.

Welcome to GH, and I hope you enjoy it here.
