Why not Bluetooth mechanical keyboards?
« on: Mon, 05 August 2013, 15:50:50 »
I don't understand why the newer smaller mechanical keyboards do not have Bluetooth capabilities. They definitely have a customer base for it and with the way technology is going, there are less USB hubs in our computers to use and we don't want wires everywhere. Do you think we will see a good mechanical wireless keyboard in the near future? I know Matias has one but they only have the one model and it isn't even a clicky keyboard. I would love it if the new Tex Beetle or a Topre were bluetooth.  :(

My daily driver at home.  You can switch between all your bluetooth devices from a keyboard shortcut so its great for switching bettern Phone/PC/Laptop/iPad/Apple TV

Now that i love but i heard it only comes in full size and only with cherry mx red. I don't understand why companies are ignoring the Bluetooth! I love how that keyboard can sync with numerous devices. Thanks for the link.

FWIW, when I met i3oilermaker for the first time in Chicago, I got to try one of these out. For a full size board it felt really nice AND it worked with his iPhone so I typed out my info on it. Really cool.

I totally agree - If there was a 60% or Tenkeyless Bluetooth board, it would be an insta-buy for me.

are you moving your keyboard around that much that you don't want a wire there to take away from your movements? I dont get blue tooth or wireless keyboards, unless your in your living room or something.

For me it is a few things.

1. Switching between devices (I always have 2 or 3 devices in front of me)
2. Transporting - cables (especially attached) are annoying and inconvenient to transport
3. USB ports - I know you can get hubs, but they are clunking.  I have a lot of USB devices and pulling one more off is nice.

Are they all Linux / MacOS / Windows devices? Try this: http://synergy-foss.org/

Seems to me that the need to periodically connect and charge a keyboard (or swap batteries) would be much more hassle than a fixed cord, especially for a keyboard that's dedicated to a single PC and left on a desk.

I once owned a wireless Logitech DiNovo keyboard and grew to hate it for that in addition to the sucky scissor switches.

Now, for a multimedia keyboard to use from the couch? Bluetooth for sure, but I don't personally have a need for it right now .

I've used Synergy before - great software, but I love using a keyboard on iOS (iPhone and iPad).  The KBTalking has a Mac/iOS, PC, and Android mode.

It can be a pain to make a keyboard work with a mobile device, need a powered hub and a power source.

Anyone know how well this charging cradle works?

I always thought that anything using disposable AA cells in computers should have gone out of style a long time ago, but they keep hanging around, I keep meaning to do a LiPoly mod to my M570.

If it is a full, TKL, or 60% you should be able to fit a decent sized LiPoly into it such that you need to charge it maybe once a quarter.

The fact is that a lot of people have numerous devices. It is not so much that i move around a lot...i use a lot of different devices. I have an IPAD, a MAC and a PC for work. I just don't understand why Matias is really the only one that is utilizing the bluetooth but they only have it on a couple of their keyboards. I love the TEX Beetle but i would love it even more if it had bluetooth. That is almost a perfect keyboard in my eyes. Also, can you imagine a HHKB with dedicated arrow keys that is bluetooth? That would be heaven.  :D

I made a thread like this when I started here too. I don't have many devices like i3oiler so thats not my issue but I do spend enough time using a laptop connected to my TV and really want to completely eliminate having to use a non mechanical keyboard for any reason ever! Even if it is to just press pause and exit fullscreen. Then I saw that they were making full size Bluetooth boards and that made me sad. Too big to have lying around on my coffee table. Bluetooth Poker is what I'm waiting for. Gotta be MX also cuz I'll use it to hold novelties as a conversation starter in my living room. Maybe convert a few non mech users to the dark side.
