What! Wait, no fair! You said the contest was over tomorrow! I have been working on a story for you. Here is the rough draft:
After squeezing under the door with the help of the Terminator, the mountain collapses on top of you. Trapped inside with your beautiful lover and supplies to keep a core group alive for decades, you set to work saving the world for the human race.
Surveying the decades–old technology that is excruciatingly slow, but sufficiently robust to survive both the ravages of time and almost any physical or electrical attack, you see the one actual true keyboard (not the Model M imposter), the IBM Model F. Immune to viruses that exploit the diaphanous “windows” operating system, and sufficiently iron–clad to survive untold abuse, this is the device that you will employ to communicate your instructions to lead the underground and save humanity.
Years later, with the Model F showing some nicks to the case, a slight shininess on the keys, and a couple of caps missing altogether but stems intact, you are still using it, typing out messages to coordinate the worldwide underground. Suddenly, the machines burst into your control room and you grab the most solid object around, the Model F, to use as a shield while you and your family run for your lives.
Having escaped the attack but trapped underground in a collapsing cavern, you reluctantly take the Model F apart and remove the 3 metal plates: the bottom pan of the case, the perforated front plate, and the backing plate for the circuit board. Handing out the plates to use as shovels, you and your family dig yourselves out to the surface, escaping to continue to lead the resistance movement.
The Model F is not a mere “human interface device” at all, it is the keyboard that has continued the survival of the human race itself.
