Questions on topre keyboard.
« on: Mon, 09 September 2013, 04:46:46 »
Hello.

I am currently using a cherry mx red switch with black landing pads (elitekeyboards) which I assume should feel kinda like a topre keyboard. I use keycool 84,

I am interested in the 30g topre switch, which is the lowest switch force I could find.

What keyboard would you recommend with topre 30g switch or less? (If theres keyboards with less force id be very interested to hear out on your thoughts.

I assume you play stacraft 2.

What is your comparison between topre and cherry mx red? Say, only measuring the light-weight and ability to press/double tap?

The reason i am interested is because I believe I can improve touchtyping and jumptyping a lot with less weight and SOME tactility.

There has only been 1 topre model for uniform 30g in ANSI and it was sold only in china (iirc) and its production has been since discontinued

I have 2 topre boards (104u variable and 87u uniform 45g) and 2 cherry reds (one filco and one steelseries).

Just comparing the lightest key on the topre variable and the reds, I think the reds are a bit stiffer. The 30g weighted topres have almost no resistance, and it is quite easy to press them just resting your hands on the keys, especially if you often rest your non-pinky fingers on them. I don't recommend anything lighter than that, unless you have a specific reason for wanting it.

In terms of noise, the topre is definitely much quieter. The 30g topres are almost completely silent especially with the stock pbt keycaps. Reds are also silent if you don't bottom out, but overall still make more noise than the filco.

That being said, they feel quite similar besides my point above. The 30g topre switch has almost no tactility, and is quite similar to cherry red in that regard. I love both, though! Let me know if you have any questions!
