[Help] Leopold Cherry MX Left and Right Control Keys Fire Bad Data
« on: Sat, 11 February 2012, 09:44:34 »
My black Leopold Cherry MX tenkeyless glitched out on me yesterday.   I was using it, and abruptly the CTRL key on the left started emitting what appears to be F1 scancodes.  Rebooted, switched machines, took it home and tried it on my Mac -- CTRL is now reliably sending F1 (and perhaps some other garbage) every time.

All other keys work, except the Ctrl key on the right -- it also is spitting out a different garbage sequence on each keypress.  Not the same garbage as the left hand Ctrl key, and it appears to be the same sequence every time.

I can't remember exactly when I purchased the keyboard -- but with my luck it will be (warranty period + some small number x).

I am traveling, and I would like to get it working again.

So, based on what I've observed, it appears to be in the microcontroller in the keyboard.  The switches themselves seem fine.  Multiple different systems are getting the incorrect scancodes from the keyboard consistently.

My questions are:
1) Has anyone seen this before?
2) I know that some other keyboards (tenkeless model M for example) have special key sequences that enable/disable, say, a 10 key mode on the keyboard.  Perhaps I inadvertantly stumbled across a sequence that is making the ctrl keys behave strangely.
3) It's odd to me that all the other keys are working fine.  A..Z, shift, alts, windows keys.  It doesn't seem to me that the keyboard driver is fried.

Any 'input' greatly appreciated.

Righthand ctrl  sequence is: ^M\./*

(That's a Ctrl-M, I think)
