New member to GH - Looking to start my own keyboard brand soon =)
« on: Sun, 29 September 2013, 22:58:32 »
Hi all:

I'm a mechanical engineer from Melbourne, Australia. I am looking to start designing and manufacturing my own keyboard very soon.

As long time follower of this forum, I find the GH community to be extremely helpful and informed. I welcome recommendations and  advices from you guys  on what features you would like on your keyboard, whether it's mechanical or membrane.

I am a gamer and my current keyboard is the Corsair K90 MMO keyboard. I love it but i do find mechanical keyboards are very expensive and alot of people I know have never typed on one before due to this reason. My dream is to encourage more and more people to replace their membrane keyboards with mechanical ones because I believe mechanical keyboards are far more superiors and can bring the user unparalleled satisfaction.

Thanks all

Noble ambitions, best of luck in your ambitions! Though, considering Australia's generous minimum wage, perhaps you'll have more success than here in the US.
The K90 was a keyboard I really was quite interested in, too. My first mechanical was the K60 (didn't game too much, didn't know that I wouldn't type well on it), and despite the fact that I much prefer Blues for typing, the Reds are wonderful and I prefer play League on it.

Hi! We don't get too many mechanical or especially materials engineers around these parts. They are often abducted in the middle of the night by those seeking to either make or remake switches from scratch, never to be heard from again.

But only slightly more seriously and related, once you try a capacitive buckling spring switch (such as found in a Model F of some sort), that's the first thing you'd want on a keyboard :p

Hi mate:

Yea personally I myself is a big fan of buckling springs, but I find people are often divided on the feedback sound of a mechanical keyboard. I am going to Shenzhen China next month to speak to some keyboard manufacturers there, but from what I gather so far the Chinese Keyboard Market much more prefer mechanical keyboards with minimal typing sound.

Always good to see more and more Aussies showing up, welcome!
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

I'd be interested in seeing what you come up with. Always nice to see someone looking to do what they love. Just remember to do all your proper prototyping before mass producing!

Something ergonomic, perhaps?  There are plenty of gaming keyboards out there.

Either way, I wish you luck and would love to see what you come up with.
