A noob has joined :)
« on: Sat, 30 November 2013, 20:29:15 »
Hello everyone! I first read about mechanical keyboards around 2 years ago. I thought they are way too expensive and not something i'm sure I would buy. Recently I came across them again someplace and whatever I read and saw got me hooked :P

I already ordered a CM Quickfire Stealth with Green switches. Its out of stock so still waiting on it. But then I discovered the cool 60% keyboards! So now I also want to get a Poker 2. I wish it came in MX Clears. Now I will most probably order the Browns. I was just going to get the black Poker but then I saw that there's also a white one lol. I want to get the white one now, but I'm worried the case might get yellow over time.

I looked at the Poker pics that some of you guys posted here. Based on that, I decided to put red (white print) and white (red print) key caps on my Poker.

Once I get my keyboard I also want to learn touch typing. I tried some websites that teach it, but I don't want to do it using my laptop keyboard.

I spent the whole weekend reading about mechanical keyboards on this forum and reddit lol. I need to get a keyboard fast before I go insane.

Hi and welcome to Geekhack! I hope you'll enjoy your cm with greens, in fact, I know you will lol! My one and only poker is with browns too lol and I love it. If you want clear there's leopold 660m with clears from elitekeyboards.

For typing practice I like http://www.typingstudy.com/ and keybr.com then you can go to typeracer.com once you're familiar with your new keyboards. The cm with greens helped me clock my best time so far! but you gotta get used to it's heaviness though. You'll get a bit tired doing long bouts on it. I even do with blues sometimes. Klavaro is a free program you can download to teach you on your own program.

Thanks, i'll check those out once i get my keyboard. I found a black Poker 2 for $95 shipped so I got that instead of white ($118). Should get it in 2-3 days. Now I have to be patient and look for some decent key caps and a cable that does not cost a body part.

It's here! I was so happy to see that it came with a blank space bar :)

I like the feel and sound of mx browns. Some time in the future, I will try do a ergo clear mod. I found these sound files online of mx clears with o-rings :

https://soundcloud.com/rainb1ood/cherry-mx-ergo-clear

And mx browns with o-rings:

Both sound very nice, especially the clears.

The Poker 2 is a awesome little keyboard. Now waiting for the QFS w/ greens :)

Wow congratz for your new keyboard!

Now you need the instruction manual: google "Poker 2 user manual" v1.00

If you can't find it I'll send it to you.

Now to breaking the sound barrier with your touch typing  :)

Now I'll go listen to those links you sent me and savour the sweet sounds....ahhhhhh!!

Haha its damn good right?! I checked out how to do the ergo clear mod and it is a lot of work, especially the lubing part. But this sound makes me want to try it. I should stop looking/hearing at stuff for a while now lol

Yeah, ergo mod is too much work.  When it's over, you will have a reasonable facsimile of a Topre keyboard.  You might just want to try a Topre next.

yeah, I put o-rings on my Poker with browns to quieten the noise but I think the Poker sounds too go for o-rings  :)
