Anyone going to buy these for $18.77? Interested in knowing how they feel but I don't know how sturdy the stems will stay in there and how long it'll last... the pictures make it seem like a splinter fest and the mold for the stems would eventually break/get loose.

Lol. That's what I'm saying... look at all those splinters on the bottom... they could've at least posted pictures of a prettied up one like how fast food joints do with the menus, even though that's not what people would get.

:P :P :P Is that what the world has come to!?

I guess it's supposed to be like that, as it's listed as "raw" poplar.

Yep!

"Raw wood allows you the freedom to stain, paint, or leave as is."

Also:

"Please note: This keycap is cut perfectly square. Most spacebars have a slant. The height has been adjusted to account for this and will feel natural for most users; however, very accurate height and contour adjustments can be easily made with a semi-fine sandpaper. "

If you're already ready to file, sand, stain, and/or paint your own keys anyway, might want to check this place out:

http://www.walllumber.com/lum.asp

This will get you 100% natural wood keycaps of your choice of wood type. However, in addition to the aforementioned tools and material, you may also need the following:

* Saw
* Drill Press
* Chisel
* Lathe
* Calipers
* Eye protection
* First Aid kit
* Exhaust fan
* Shop Vac
* Various other tools readily available at your local home improvement big box store

It looks like such a low quality, horrible wood & a terrible job of cutting..

It appears to be CNC routered or something along those lines.  They're just doing it quick and dirty.   I also wouldn't call poplar horrible wood.  The first case I made with that awesome green coloration to it was made out of poplar.  Poplar is just a cheap wood.  A horrible wood would be something like pine.

Nubbinator has already made wooden space bars.

I've actually got an Ebony one mostly made for Binge, a Zebrawood one in the works for demik, and I'm supposed to do a black and white ebony one for someone on OCN.

Thanks.  I'm actually looking to do a mold of the internals for a universal spacebar so I don't have to mess around with getting stems perfectly aligned.  If I can do that, I may offer them up for sale.  Of course, they'll be more expensive than MK's, but they're also finished and with a nicer wood.

I agree. I have experimented with making wooden keycaps on a CNC mill and it just doesn't work. I'd much rather buy a handmade one from you that is sanded and finished.
