Well a lot of us have over a year (without this deal) of shoprunner already and haven't paid a cent.  I think i've only really used mine for dominos(gets rid of delivery charge) and newegg though.

Yep, I've had an account since november 2011 and I haven't paid a dime and I haven't put much of any effort into it either.

They just gave me an second year free without me asking, and then I linked with amex for another one.

EDIT: I've also used it to get discounts at newegg because some of my packages haven't arrived on time.

Yea, i mean it's free so it doesnt hurt to have it.
I only use mine for Dominos and the rare times i order from Newegg. Still useful to save a few bucks. Wouldnt pay for it though.

Sometimes they have a 3 month trial, then they offer you a few more months. Then a year and then if you use it so many times they extend it again.

Yeah, if you're one of us that's got an unhealthy addiction to Newegg & you place several Shoprunner orders there every month, chances are they'll auto-renew you -- my guess is they take something like a 'referral' cut on purchases from Newegg/member sites (I know they aren't real 'referrals', but you get what I mean) and can thus justify giving heavy/frequent customers free memberships.  Or maybe Newegg steps in and foots the bill to keep the orders flowing, who knows.

Around the holidays last year, when I was coming up on my expiration date and getting notices about discounted extension offers (~$30, so pretty cheap), I was basically all set to let it expire in hopes that not having free expedited shipping would help me cut down my spending.  At the 11th hour, much to my wallet's chagrin, I get an email from them saying something like, "Surprise, next year's on us."  Tricky, tricky.
