Keycool 22 Limited Edition Keypad
« on: Thu, 08 August 2013, 15:22:34 »
I was stumbling around the Keycool website and came across this beast, the Keycool 22 Limited Edition.  Normally I'm not a keypad person, but I saw this and have to have it.  It has Clears and either white LEDs, a hodgepodge of color LEDs for a rainbow effect, or RGB LEDs. I'm not really sure which since info is sparse.  Anyone know if this thing is sold out or hasn't come to market yet or something?  MK doesn't have it and I can't find it on Taobao, eBay, Amazon, Qtang's web store, and so on.

Product in question

Pictures. They're rather long, so I hid them.

http://www.banggood.com/Keycool-USB-22-Keys-Mechanical-Keyboard-Cherry-MX-Blue-Switch-p-82936.html

doesn't mention if it has any LEDS though

^^ You can buy the keycool key pads with blue switches all over the place....but not one with clears and leds

Exactly this.  I've found it in several places with white LEDs and common switches, but none with Clears or RGB or color LEDs.

I was going to get the leopold and mod it with clears but this might be a better option.

I remember seeing this a few months ago either on Keycool's site or somewhere else. I am pretty sure those are not RGB LED's, but rather just color LED's. Very typical LED colors, orange, green, white and blue. They would have probably showed at least red or more colors if they were RGB.

I am not sure how "Limited Edition" these keypads are because the same exact ones were on sale November 2012. So if they are still in production now, chances are it shouldn't be too hard to grab one through proxy.

See davkol's post in the thread below.

No clue why they cost so much.  There's one with Alps that's like $20, but I've never understood how they could possibly be $70 for one.

If it is a limited edition, maybe extra cost to machine the plate (if any)?  Limited run of cases would cost more than bulk production.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

It's a stock case best I can tell.  The only different part seems to be LEDs and Clears.  The cost thing was a more of keypads in general.

In that case, niche market, specialist product (especially a mechanical keypad).

I'd rather buy the GHpad when its finished and put on clears and LED's. Its pretty pricey.
