Aluminum Cases for Poker II?
« on: Fri, 18 October 2013, 10:08:58 »
I have seen all of these cases for the poker 2 that were group buys recently and I was wondering if there were any websites out there where you could get them from? I saw that taobao had the hammer case which I really want but it was going to cost 175 dollars for it before shipping through a proxy to the US, that would add probably 55 dollars to the cost. So I don't think it is worth it for 230 dollars. So does anyone know of any places online that have any aluminum poker cases for sale? Ebay pages or whatever?

There is a on-going GB on a black aluminum case for pokers by pexon for just 50$ :O I would first check that out or talk to treble. He is a vendor and make really awesome looking cases!
Very busy with studies atm.

If you're looking to purchase from a vendor, versus doing a group buy, then I'd suggest getting a treble case. They are powder coated instead of anodized, which means you have a wider range of colors to choose from.

Has anyone tried a Poker 2 in a treble case? Just curious. I know there were some cases that had clearance issues due to the plate/stabilizers or something like that.

So are those the only ongoing cases that I could get? I am not a big fan of the 50 dollar one, it seems low profile and I don't really like the cases that sit below the bottom of the keycaps. The treble case looks like it does a bit also, but it seems like a better option although I wish it was a little bit more stylized like the hammer was.

You get what you pay for. Skimp now, and you'll regret it later, they are rarely ever on Ebay pages, most of them are either from group buys, or on the classified. If you want that hammer case, talk to feng, he might be able to help you out.

The $50 case appears to be a replacement of the stock plastic Poker case cast out of aluminum instead of plastic. In other words, it's not low-profile like the Tex and Pure Limited Edition cases are/were. Although they haven't come out of production, so we're all just guessing based on the photos posted.

The treble case is a standard tray case and not low profile either.

::: Other Options :::
1. Hammer 60% Cases
There was a group buy for them, but they are still being sold on Taobao and ekw808's suggestion about contacting Feng is a good idea if you want one of those. They are very heavy and beautifully designed cases. I posted some photos of mine here.

2. Tex Low-Profile Case
I know you said you didn't like low-profile, but  Tex is making some cases and it would appear that they will have some to sell outside of the group buy they are running. For example, orange wasn't a color that was offered in the group buy, but they have a picture of it on their Facebook page.

3. Classifieds
People sell things all the time and you might find an MKC, Duck Poker, PLA Poker, or some other 60% case appear from time-to-time. It's a bit random, but it is an option.

Hope that helps!

Thanks mashby and everyone else!

So, yeah, I am not really interested in something like the 50 dollar case since it is just the same size and I was more interested in something with a bit more heft to it :D

I was looking at the hammer on taobao and it seems that the "premium" version on the website is the hammer and the standard is the old one without much design on it, either way the shipping is probably going to be around 55+ and I would prefer to go about it another way.

I am going to look at the classifieds more to see if anyone sells a case but at this point I found a case I completely fell in love with. It is the FMJ design #2 case and from the looks of it they might make more batches.

This is the one I am looking into now
http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=47067.0;topicseen

Does that one mean that they are going to produce more or did I completely miss out on that one?

Thanks people :)

Yes, I think the designs that they came up with are something they plan to do more of. Not many people jumped on the two cases that they did because there weren't many finished examples. Additionally, it was the 3rd group buy for a 60% case in 45 days, so I think most people were tapped.

I like the designs and I'd love to get my hands on one, so I hope that they do another round. That being said, I also want a treble case.  :p

Here's your chance at a Hammer case. The only downside is that it comes with a KBT Pure keyboard. LOL!

I wouldn´t even go for that one! The one with the pure is better value + I consider 200$ for the hammer case almost a scam!

Yeah I don't know if he's going to get any takers on that Hammer case considering they can be had shipped to a TaoBao proxy for $170.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

Agreed! A tip if you´re buying from china is, dont be greedy on the shipping. China´s post service is brutal and numerous items has been destroyed, so i would personaly dont risk it and order via DHL etc.

Oh totally. I've been ordering camera equipment from China for years and never had a moments trouble because I always use Fedex or DHL. Use the right service and you won't have any problems! I like Fedex especially because it tracks the parcel right to my door.
