Sennheiser HD 428 vs. Superlux HD 681 EVO
« on: Tue, 26 November 2013, 16:14:11 »
I am currently debating between these two headphones: the Superlux HD-681 EVO (http://www.head-fi.org/products/superlux-hd-681-evo-black-professional-monitor-headphones) and the Sennheiser HD428 (http://www.head-fi.org/products/sennheiser-hd428-around-the-ear-headphones-black). As far as build quality goes, it seems that the Superlux is superior, but I am primarily concerned with sound quality of the two headphones. Reviews seem to indicate that the Superlux is also superior in this regard, and I was wondering if anyone who has tried both of the headphones could confirm if one is better than the other.

I posted this on the head-fi forums but received no response there. Perhaps any Geekhackers who are also audiophiles (or semi-audiophiles) could shed some light into my indecision?

Thanks  :D

If you pay $15 more than the $45 on those HD428s, you could get Grado SR60s which are pretty nice. I have the big brother SR80i cans which I love. I have a headphone review in my signature as well. Tjcaustin, Binge, thegunner100, and some others might be able to chime in as well :D.

Hm, they seem to be $135 on Amazon, and I'm looking to get closed back headphones rather than open back. I found the Sennheiser's for $30 a while ago, so I'm hoping to stay under the $40 dollar range.

I would suggest you give these a look.

these are fischer audio FA-003 with angled ear pads and an extra cable.  Amazing value.

It's not fair to compare closed and open headphones.

Anyway, the HD 4x8 line felt very plastic when I tried it... definitely not the best build quality around. The HD 4x9 facelift should be a tad bit better.
