Best place to buy a filco?
« on: Thu, 14 November 2013, 20:57:18 »
I've decided on the Filco Majestouch 2  TKL brown switch. Is there any difference between the standard one and the ninja? I'm replacing the keycaps anyway, but I like the blacked out logo on the ninja, if they're essentially the same board. All of the places I've seen on google ship from Japan. Is there a place that I can buy it that has it in the US? Thanks!

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I can't find a brown switch one from amazon that ships from the USA. I don't want to wait forever to get it.

You say amazon is more expensive than it's worth. Where could I get it the cheapest?

I know there's a ton of discussion between the filco vs the quickfire but the filco has obviously got to be worth the extra money or so many people here wouldn't have it - right?

You can order from the Ncix.ca (Canadian Filco reseller) website, they do ship internationally. You'll have to pay a bit more in shipping but they usually have a decent variety in stock and it would be faster than shipping from the UK or the Asian countries.

http://ncix.ca/products/?sku=70720&vpn=FKBN87M%2FEB2&manufacture=Filco

Expect to pay around $20 in shipping from Canada if you are in the continental US.

Thanks!

Edit: Does it come with a good keycap puller? Also - I know this is unrelated, but are browns heavier or lighter than blues? Are they better than blues for double tapping? I love typing on the blues and I love how clicky they feel and sound, but double tapping just isn't great on them. SC2 is my main game and I really need to be able to double tap better than this.

It comes with a good keycap puller.   Browns are lighter than blues.  Yes, browns are better for double tapping.

Does filco have any way to do media keys? It would really be helpful to have a way to reduce volume while in game.

The exchange rate will probably save you the $20 you spend on shipping. They have good sales sometimes as well, so wait for a sale if your not in a hurry. A sale will save you $20-$40 on it. I have bought 2 filco a from them.

There isn't that big of a difference in the exchange rate of CAD -> USD lol. I bought a Filco keyboard from Ncix.ca before and I didn't save that much.

As far as I know, only the Filco Multicam has media functions.

Just ordered my Filco Ninja Majestouch 2 (even though I'm replacing the keycaps I like the blacked out front facing logo).  Got it from NCIX. It was a long hard descision, but I went with browns. I think they're the closest to blues I can get while also being able to double tap, and if I miss my blues I can plug in my blackwidow ultimate if I need to type something that I'd prefer blues for. I also ordered http://www.ebay.com/itm/KBC-Blue-Blank-Thick-PBT-104-Keyset-Cherry-MX-Keycaps-/330950281295?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4d0e2c884f I'm excited to get some thick pbt caps and when I get the black on black ones from the group buy in a few months i'll add them into the blue and it'll look really sweet as two toned. Thanks for all the help!
