Random stuck space bar after replacing it
« on: Fri, 22 November 2013, 14:16:35 »
Hey guys, so after I got my Ducky YOTS in blues, I switched the space bar cuz I didn't like it. After switching it, it was actually very hard to switch, I did from left to right to middle lift. I pressed it a few times to test. It got stuck when coming back up. It stopped like when you press lightly on a key, and right before it actuates that's where it stops. Except its after the press. Reseating it multiple times did not work. I think it's because the cherry stabs on the side are not fully pushed in with the space bars stabilizer hole, maybe not. I dont think I broke it, but after removing the space bar it sits in the position, like when you press down the key it's in that position. It is also slightly movable with my finger. I spoke with two other GHers with no resolution. If a stabilizer broke, how do you tell? Is it what I detailed?
Thanks for reading and replying fellows, kinda new/lurker because I was desperately looking for a YOTS. But slightly dismayed because I might have broken it on my second day :(.

The only thing I could think of was that the stems under the space bar are slightly mis-aligned.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

/|----------+-----------|\ might be your problem

Your space bar might be a little warped, or the stems for the stabilizers are slightly bowed out. I had this problem with the Nyan backspace and cherry stabilizers, it would push it, but wouldn't pop out, I determined because the stems on the backspace were bowed outward causing the stabilizers to be pushed against itself causing a lot of friction.

I see...I think the problem is with the stems and me removing the space bar the first time.
It was very hard, and I removed it from the right side, then left side then the middle. It took much more force the first time than the other times so oops?
@kmiller8 how did you solve the problem?

I might ask Mechanicalkeyboards to re-seat the keys. Or ask them specifically about the spacebar.
Thanks all for the replies anyway. If only I had costar stabs... everything would be easier..

removed the stabilizers :))

Like I said, that might be the problem, I'd try putting the stock spacebar back on your board and see if it does the same thing before trying any drastic measures.

Wouldn't it be expensive to ship it there just to ask them to reseat the spacebar?

Removing stabilisers on the space bar is not such a good idea.

Also this is one area where Costar stabilisers have the edge - the inserts don't have to be 100% aligned to connect to the stabiliser bar, whereas Cherry stabs do.

If your spacebar is warped, use a blow dryer to heat it up and soften it to where you can straighten it.
No, he’s not around. How that sound to ya? Jot it down.

Oh thanks for that info rowdy, didn't know that.
It wouldn't really be expensive, they're from Tenessee and Im from NY
I could just ask for a RMA and say I had a stuck space bar, and when I'm emailing them Ill just ask them to reseat it. It's only like 5 bucks for shipping.

Currently, Spacebar is fine, and i like this keyboard. Really nice.
