What exactly is this Clear switch keyboard?
« on: Wed, 12 February 2014, 18:12:19 »
http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/6020971284.html

i'm willing to gamble and paid $150 with free 2-week shipping on it. I already got a Quickfire XT with Browns but i felt the Clears recently and they felt a lot better to me. Thing is, it's IMPOSSIBLE compared to Browns or Reds to try to get a Clear version of anything.... so apparently i'm waiting for a "Keycool" 108 board.  It looks a lot like a Ducky Shine II to me...

Keycool is a pretty good brand.  Has reasonable reputation here.  Might want to ask qtan here if he can proxy one for you and compare prices:

Ok, good, but too late for proxying anything, i already bought the Keycool Clear from Aliexpress.... then again i never knew the option of proxying anything. What does that do anyway?

It depends on a situation.  Just proxying means a person buys an item abroad and ships it to you.  Some people, like qtan, get some deals on keyboards as they run a specialized business in China, so their price + shipping to the U.S. might be reasonable vs. what you can buy here already.

Hmmm...

Plate mounted MX Clears with POM caps. Very nice!  The Keycool boards are pretty good.  :thumb:
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

so far i've felt zinc ESC button, regular ABS as usual, and my thick PBT arrow keys for gaming (I'm left handed so that's pretty much my WASD cluster :P)

What exactly do POM feel like and how do they compare to the usual plastics?

Jelly of that board, looks totally cool. I really want to try clears, too. Just got my Code 87 with mx greens and 2mm 40AL o-rings. Feels kinda spiffy. I might ditch the orings.

POM is a bit more "slick", almost teflon-ish. I really like it, it's my favourite cap material. It's more dense than PBT so the caps are often even a little heavier than equivalent PBT caps. Deeper, more "thocky" sound on bottoming out and release.

Clear boards are a b**** to get anywhere, if you really want one, they only have 2 in stock from that AliExpress site, of which i took one. soooo..... one more Clear board for someone!

only caveat is the 2-week shipping time, because any faster shipping options is like instant +$100 more, and its not worth it when i can enjoy my Quickfire XT browns in the meantime.  I do need to sell my half-assed corsair k60 though.

Nice, i want them heavy, i like the feel of heavy caps like my metal ESC keycap, so anything like that is just groovy.
