DS or Dyesub PBT?

Which is better in terms of color quality and durability, DS PBT or dyesub PBT for simple two color caps?

doubleshot>dyesub for everything

dyesubs will not wear for a very long time though, and depending on which dyesubs they are the colour/detail will be very good also. The font on BSP/original cherry dyesubs looks great, almost as clear as doubleshots unless you look very closely.

Would vortex ds pbt be better or ivan's pbt dyesub from r1?

I personally couldn't touch the Vortex DS because I think the font is horrid. The DS font will be more crisp than the dyesub font, but it really all depends whether you like the Vortex font or Ivan's replica cherry font the most. Both types of keycaps are thick and high quality.

Also OEM profile not as good as cherry profile.....my opinion.

I couldn't touch the vortex ds at first because its so slanted but then i realized my old laptop's keyboard looked just like it and I never noticed it.

But edging more to the dyesub now because its in cherry profile vs vortex oem profile, plus it has stepped caps

if the keycaps are same profile, same thickness, same font same all except for double shot versus dyesub, then double shot is better. But dyesub is not so far behind since it will last super long (like forever really), you don't feel it and the color you can get is quite nice too. In the end, the only big difference is that you cant have some dyesub color combo.

personally, I would put more importance on profile, thickness, material than dyesub versus double shot.

That raises another question.

I think the answer is obvious. We'll both say it on three.

one…

two…

three!

Am I the only one that likes OEM better?  Cherry profile feel like you're expecting more height but then gets stopped half way.

Which is weird considering I like scissor switch and Cherry ML switch too.

I'm happy with either!

Not sure how I'd feel about OEM profile Topre keycaps though.

It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Except the high profile topre caps aren't all topre the same profile? So therefore that is OEM profile for topre?

I'll put this simply so Pacifist can understand:

Double-shot ABS is superior for color quality.

Dyesub PBT is superior for durability.

Now double-shot PBT, that's just the holy grail of keycaps...

True. In the two categories in the OP tho, they would be ideal.

Actually Topre feels kind of inbetween OEM and Cherry profile.  But I could be wrong I'm just basing off how I "feel".

And this is correct.  :)

In a manner of speaking :p

However "MX-style OEM" Topre keycaps on a Topre board with otherwise "Topre-style OEM" keycaps was a bit of a mouthful.

I have a 24 year old thick pbt dye sub cherry keycaps set that i use on my poker 2. The colors look crisp (no yellow stains - take that abs!), the caps dont shine (after 24 years!), the keys feel/sound amazing(dat sweet thick pbt) and i love the font. if you ever get the chance to get a thick pbt set then go for it, if not then go for abs (the second best - even tho it will shine and turn yellow... and if you are very unlucky it will be thin too)

Cherry DYE SUB >>>> Cherry DS.

I have a set of Cherry DYE SUB and some Cherry DS (GMK and old stuff) and my favourites are, by far, the Cherry DYE subbed set. The PBT feeling and typing sound are not comparable to ABS. Specially the keycap feeling...once you try Cherry PBT (not all pbt feels the same btw) you don´t want anything else

Yes, in my mind original Cherry dyesubs are the best looking and feeling MX keycaps you can get. Shame they're so rare in ANSI.
