« on: Wed, 01 January 2014, 19:57:56 »
With all the set options in the keycap group buys are there ever sets for 60% keyboards?

I haven't seen many 60% set options, but BunnyLake put together a 60% set group buy. He very recently mentioned that there were extras if you want to pick up a set :).

I always just buy a tkl set and pick up a short right shift and fn key.  The penumbra set is 60% compatible. So is round 5.

You just have to expect to buy some extra keys that you don't intent to use.

Thanks for the replies.
I know some of the GB are 60% compatible,  I just see so many sub sets available, I was wondering with the popularity of 60% if there will be some GB that have a 60% option to keep from having to buy too many unneeded keys.  (I seen Bunny's 60% only set.  It is temping, just not crazy about the orange.)

It overcomplicates things. For example, the tsang and moogle kits. tsang is made for winkeyless 7x spacebar boards. If there was a seperate buy for a set only including the keys neccessary, it makes it too complicated

Some of the bigger GBs have 60% kits. Round 5 is an example.

Unfortunately it is usually cheaper to just get a tkl kit because of the order quantities.  For round 5 you could get a tkl kit for 59$ but the 60% kit was 75$. That was mainly due to order quantities and the need for many extra key options to cover all 60% layouts (there are many).

Swill, that is exactly what I am looking for in Round 5 even the colors.  Did I miss out on this or do I have until the 6th to order a set? (Get on the train?)

it is going to be very close.  just try to submit an order to 7bot and see if it accepts it.  you may get lucky, but you are probably down to the last hours if he is still accepting orders...

This is a simple matter of scale economy. TKL sets will interest both TKL and 60 and other mini boards with some add ons. No reason to go for 60 only, while they are popular are not main stream.

Most sets can accommodate 60% layouts.

Scale of economy is exactly why I don't do 60% specific. It's much easier to target fullsize with only single package option, and get maximum buyer that is need to even reach a MOQ or lower price tiers. If only offer ANSI 60%, it would automatically leave out many potentially interested participant. If it even got enough interest to go to production at all, it could easily end up more expensive that a full set may have been with more buyer.
I would much rather just do set that works for majority of keyboard. It makes it easier for buyers as they can see it will work with almost anything current and future. It make it easier for 'seller' only have to package set in one single configuration, leads to much quicker packing and delivery with less error.

This is exactly how production scales do affect economics. So I think the thread is educational for all of us to understand why not niche boards are targeted in GB in an exclusive way.
