Desperate for used IBM Model M in India
« on: Thu, 30 January 2014, 02:04:22 »
I have looked and searched on the internet and there appears to be no way to get an old IBM model M in India... either I have to pay exhorbitant shipping fees from a US seller or the shipping is non existent (ebay.com US Only shipping). The price more than doubles with shipping and with present exchange rates, it hurts even more.

I have made local inquiries of a limited extent, but then I have few hopes of getting my hands on one. I would be pleased if somebody can point me to a source where I can look for a used IBM Model M (preferably with the newer PS/2 connector) without having to pay too high shipping costs... I am willing to pay a decent price for one if I can get it delivered locally.

Thanks and regards.

Shipping a keyboard from the US to India will cost $78 via Post Office flat rate game board box.

That is nearly twice the average current price of a decent used Model M itself, and about equal to the price of a new Unicomp.

I would imagine that a seller from China or southeast Asia would be able to ship for considerably less.

Yes. The thing is I have been unable to find any non-US based seller of Model M who can ship for less.

I tried that site. Again, the shipping cost makes the final cost more than double that of the product itself. Their FAQ is clear on that point too: says that they cannot do anything about the shipping cost.

There seem to be a number of Model Ms in Australia. That shipping must be a little cheaper.
