hey... my english is far from perfect, and i often end up making some rly confusing threads, but i try my best ;p

anyway, i bought my first mechanical keyboard around 6 months ago, and i been addicted ever since...

i currently own 3 mechanical keyboards, and im not going to stop... but i think its time to take the next step and get a little help finding the right one for me... or mby even create my own custom keyboard.

i started getting a fancy CM storm rapid quickfire with mx blue, but quickly realized i didnt like the layout...

i then bought a steelseries 6Gv2 mx black in my local pc store, but i missed the sound and tactile feedback...

then i had a brain freeze and bought a Vortex Poker 2 with no fkeys,.. but atleast i learned that the brown switch is my favorit one so far...

-----------------

next stop is trying the clear mx switches, but i also want to learn a bit more about ALPS, topre and other switches...

i will go search the forum for a bit before i start asking questions, just wanted to say HI!!!

Welcome to Geekhack!  :)

If you like MX Brown, Topre are like if MX Brown and rubber dome had a baby.
They're like rubber domes with a longer and softer tactile point similar to MX Brown, but it's at the top of the key travel like a rubber dome.  They also have a slightly cushiony bottoming out like rubber dome as well, but without all the flex and squish.  They are also a very good for off-center key presses unlike standard rubber domes.

There's not much advantage of one keyboard over another besides key rollover.  What's makes a keyboard better is if you like how it looks or feels better.  It's very much about aesthetics and personal choice at this point.  I haven't tried any of the Alps switches, but I'm sure they're fun.  I have a Cherry ML-4100 keyboard I bought on eBay for $14 shipped.  It's only 2 KRO, but it has a nice form factor, I like the look of it, and the Cherry ML switches are fun to press.  Terrible if you press them off-center, but still fun.

My favorite switches are Topre and vintage MX Black (the smoothest switches available).  Topre is what rubber domes should be.  Vintage MX Black is smooth and linear and feels nice.
I've tried the other MX switches except white and clear and found things I didn't like about them.  Here's a summary; I'll go into more detail/explanations if you ask for it:

Red- Too light, force gradient not steep enough.
Brown- Tactile point isn't useful.
Blue- Reset point is higher than the actuation point.
Green- Extra spring force is wasted on this switch design.

thx for the warm welcome but i think i will post a thread with questions on the keyboard forum to avoid confusion and spam, and maximize my chances of helpfull responces...

i am actualy not sure what the point of a ''new members'' forum is, but mby its just because we like to type...  ;D

EDIT: ok it feels a little cheap just to ignore your comment like that... here we go...

its not that im in love with the brown switches or anything like that, i actualy think one of the other switch types will end up being my favorit. Im just addicted trying to find the right layout, and learning everything there is to know...

feel free to tell/link me anything you know about vintage switches (i keep ending up on german sites  )

by mis-buying 3 keyboards i have learned one thing... i NEED my fkeys right above my number keys, but i also like to have a full layout... im not sure this is even possible to find a keyboard like that with all the other switches, so mby i end up with a mx switch after all... or mby i even go back to a scissor switch (dont hate :p )

just an example of how i want my fkeys to be located...

I've only seen some Chinese keyboards that are like that:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-shipping-Backlight-Gaming-Mechanical-Keyboard-Original-Cherry-Black-Tea-Red-Keyclick-For-Professional-Gamers/1419323923.html

These come with Cherry MX.  Seen some weird Engrish brand names on them like "Shogun Bros." and "New Man".  Usually pretty poor build quality.  I wouldn't pay more than $40 for it.

Scissor switches are always an option if you like short throw switches.
