I had 3 of these arrive today :)

If you hae not tried the cherry black switches I would recommend them if you like a switch to have a bit more resistance than the very light blues and browns.
They are Linear and are often used in gaming keyboards. The steelseries G7 and the Deck boards use them.

These have dual injection moulded caps wich are very nice to type on as they are slightly heavier than standard caps. The lettering is also very bright and bold and will never fade or wear.

The outside of the board looks pretty average. Its compact as you can see from the pic with the hacker.
The best thin IMO is the clip together design. It seems to be made to be taken apart. Normally clip together boards are hard to open and snap but this has been made so well you can just use your thumb to open each chunky tab. Its an excellent design.

The pictures will tell a better story than me.Sorry the ones of the outside are not great my camera gets confused by black.

Any questions please ask.

One has already gone!
Thanks Chloe.

Mmh, looks really cool. I want one with blue MX and US layout. But I won't. I have enough boards for some time.

What I find strange is that in the second picture the HHKB looks much smaller than the alphanumeric part of the MX 1800, and in the last picture it's the other way around. Perspective is a strange thing.

I stopped using the flash on my cam. Instead I use a tripod and long exposure times with ISO 100 for nice keyboard pr0n pics :)

yeah I do take proper shots too. This was just a rush job to get them up here.
When I next get the lights out I will try and get some good ones of all the boards :)
It does look cool I know!
Im tempted to keep 2 and make one a brown board. I like the browns but the compaqu's little ball is a bit irritating and the layout on that board is odd.
I must be getting used to the US layout because I keep missing left shift!

Thanks for the comments my friend.

Brown Cherry is the one switch I have yet to try. I *think* I won't like it though. If there only would be a black M mini (Unicomp, you're listening?).

Have you tried the red ones? I think they could be nice. Its a black with the spring from a brown.

I think they are pretty nice, but they are on the light side for me.  If you have a particularly light touch, I think they can be fantastic, but my touch is so heavy that I pretty much pressed right through any tactility they had, so they almost felt linear (I really like my keys to be tactile). It could be that I have a well-used 'board (I have a seemingly well-used MX11800).

Seems like a nice layout - compact, but without losing any keys.  Are those the same as the Raptor K1?

I've never had the courage to remove a large MX keycap - it's interesting to see how they're supported.

They are in most ways yes.
Only these are PS2 and dont have the usb hub.
Otherwise its the same board.

The way the larger keys connect are unique to cherry switches I think.
On the das 3 for example it uses little white hooks on each side of the key that hold the levelling bar. They are a pain to get back on.
These just pop on and off as much as you like. Its another good design by cherry :)

I didn't try red Cherrys, no.  Has *anyone* here? I though they were another Asian-only thing that's hard to come by in the rest of the world. Which is a shame considering Cherry being a German company. And they never replied to my email requesting a tenkeyless with blue MX. I hate you, Cherry! ;)

The same here. Linear switches are definitely not for me. I want strong audible and tactile feedback. I want buckling springs, hehe. That's why I'm not thrilled, to say the least, by the red Cherry.

The Scorpius M10 also uses those white hooks. The trick is to DISCONNECT the hooks from the key, install them, then in one motion, get the key arm back into the hooks while seating it on the switch.

I am much more concerned about tactile feedback more than audible myself, but I feel ya.  I tend to find too much noise a little distracting.  Black alps are about the most noise I can handle before all I hear is typing.  I don't care for silent, either, but I do like a quiet environment to concentrate in.  I am a data analyst, so, when I am doing some actual work ( :) ), I need to be able to concentrate.

Those boards look great!

I like the bold but clean look for the lettering on the keys, too.  Looks like good quality construction, as well.

Feels more solid than the compaq or the 11900. the caps are the highlight for me though as they feel so nice. I hate the ruff lettering on the 11900.
Its an excellent board all round.

Are the F and J keys scooped?  I like that so much more than bumps or lines.

they are yes. They have a more pronounced concave surface. It works well to locate the home row.
I like just a dot in the middle but this is better than the line at the bottom of the key.

Just got my copy today

its fairly similar to my macally mk96, main issues with the keyboard seem to be single key size for ctrl, windows and alt for both left and right keys. To be honest I wouldn't have minded a smaller spacebar, but no keyboard is perfect anyway.

Here's some pics to show the differences between these gems, still not as tiny as a hhkb type keyboard but much more easier to bring in any bag than a full size keyboard.

I love this layout.  I wish I could find one for cheap with a US layout.

This took a while.
Good thing I had the entire universe invincible manually open axis device to hand.
This could well be the board for me.
The heavy caps on the brown switches feel and sound so nice. The blacks are just a bit heavy for me.
I think I might like this more than the HH.
Although I am very used to the layout of that one.

Is that a white switch under the Esc key, or a gray one?

Those gray switches are teh suck.  I had to change out the one under the spacebar on my MX-11800 with the Scroll Lock.  That SOB is hard to push, especially for the spacebar.

there are two different greys. One is tactile the other linier.
They are very stiff and horrible under the space.
The one there has a tactile bump the same as a brown but a blue spring.
It feels the same now :) (almost)
