Hello geekhack!
« on: Mon, 17 February 2014, 03:18:59 »
Bonjour, geekhack!

After weeks of research and trying to make up my mind, I have finally made my first proper keyboard purchase! :D
I have always used the cheapest, most awful keyboards you can imagine. But after having bought a new monitor and a new mouse, I just felt it was time to get myself a respectable keyboard.. so I could love my setup as a whole! ;D

After reading hundreds of geekhack posts, I ended up ordering the KBT Pure Pro (with Red switches).

I'm a gamer (competitive FPS gaming for 3 hours a day).
My primary reasons for ordering the KBT Pure are: the fact that it's mechanical, the awesomely small size, the PBT caps and the Cherry MX switches.

Before I started looking for a new keyboard, I wasn't even aware of the fact that keyboards smaller in size than a full sized one exist; I had just never thought about it.
A problem I've always had is that I sometimes smack my mouse against the right side of my full sized keyboard because I often need to quickly turn to the left (and I use low sensitivity), so I got quite excited when finding out 60% keyboards exist.

Of course it didn't take long before I stumbled upon the geekhack forums.. which simply provided everything I needed (and more!).  ;D
So.. I guess this post is more of a me trying to show my appreciation for this community, rather than just an introduction.  :-X

So, anyway; cheers everyone!  :D
Great community with respectable initiative and knowledge!  :-*

Feel free to share your thoughts on my purchase of the KBT Pure Pro! (I expect it to arrive within 2 weeks.)

P.S. Depending on how I feel about my Pure Pro; I might also get a Poker 2 with Red or Black switches :j

Great choice for a first keyboard! Don't see many newcomers going straight to 60%—I'm glad you made that jump though. I hope you won't mind using the fn-layer for the f-keys though; that can be an issue for some gamers.

Also don't buy into any hype that some switches are better for gaming, FPS, typing, programming.  They are all equally as good as the other.  It all comes down to personal preference.  I have gamed on clear, ergo clears, reds, blues, and browns.

Personally I like having reds on WASD and clears on most other switches.

Thanks for the replies, guys!  :j

I wouldn't have taken the step if it wasn't for geekhack, though!

Objective information is one thing, but people who actually give a damn providing (detailed) user experience is something I value much, much more.
I feel confident I've purchased a good keyboard and, without doubt, it will be a big improvement to any keyboard I've ever owned ;p
And I'm sure it won't take long for me to get used to the layer as there are many keys I rarely use :J

I had figured as much from what I've read on here :j

I took my guess based on what I know about myself (including my limited experience with keyboards) after reading about experiences others have had with all switches. Maybe Reds are not my favorite (for gaming), but I honestly like finding these things out by experiencing.
"The road to perfection." :D

If, after a few weeks/months of use, I feel like 'plain' Reds might not be as good as it gets for me, I might get a second keyboard with Blacks (for example) or/and get myself some o-rings/dampeners.
I think I've made a good guess with the Pure Pro with PBTs and Reds, but I wouldn't at all feel bad if I end up starting to feel like I want to try something else :j

But I suppose that's the curse of geekhack, huh? It makes you want to try out everything :')
