IBM 122key terminal model F?
« on: Mon, 24 February 2014, 15:01:12 »

This cherry guy  has an question for the IBM keyboard guru's

Is this a model F or model M 122key? Or what do I need to look at to tell the difference?

whichever it is, do people collect these or should the big stack of them just stay in the recycle pile?

thanks!

That rounded IBM logo tells me Model M.

You can get them all day for like $40 shipped. Not sure if anyone would want it.

Another easy indicator is the back. Model F have a black metal back, while Model M are beige plastic.

I just don't get why someone would want to get rid of this unless he has an F lol.

Seems more like a M because of the logo, but even an M is nice. Maybe on the big side of things, but still cool. But if it was an F, it would be 200% cooler  :p

thanks for the responses guys!

I have no interest in these myself, but saw a stack of these and normal 101key M's on a customer's dock today waiting to go off the to e-recycle place. Just wanted to see if people cared for them or not as I should be able to grab some for free for people

I think there'd be plenty of interest for the 122s and 101s.

Yeah, the 101's especially, even if they are terminal models.

122s (M and F) will need a Soarer converter to work with a PC. Terminal101s need this as well. Usually 101s without caps/num/scroll lock lights are terminal boards. Only exception is the very early model 139120, which is a PC board without lights. Model F 122 can be most easily identified by the metal case bottom. M case bottom is always beige plastic.

Yes, by all means.

These are not nearly as highly desirable as others, but they are far from worthless even if you are only harvesting keys and springs.

If gotten free or cheap, they would also be great carcasses for chop jobs such as removing the numpad.

Give the 122s away for shipping cost or just a little more, charge $15 for the terminal Ms, and $30 for standard Ms and make yourself some money while doing a good deed.
"Starting in 2011, the deficits again started to shrink. During Obama’s term  the deficit was reduced by $900 Billion  before finally in 2015 the GOP managed to wrangle a “reconciliation” bill out of Obama where he again cut corporate taxes, as well as made permanent some of George W. Bush’s original tax cuts. This is the year everything reversed. Before this, under Clinton, Bush and Obama the deficit in almost every year was gradually decreasing. The balance we had of taxes and the economy was bringing the deficit down, the money coming in was slowly catching up with the money going out until 2015. Trump’s subsequent tax cut has continued the new trend even after the rest of Bush’s cuts have since expired. Obama had an average GDP of 2.3%, with 11.6 million jobs created and unemployment peaking at 10% in 2009, then falling to 4.3% in 2016. If we had continued on that downward deficit track, we would have again reached balance and another surplus in 2017-2018.

Best advice of thread.

Immediate giveaway that this is an M, not an F:  the raised area way the top with the 24 function keys is narrow, just big enough for the keys.  ALL F122 (and older M122) keyboards have this raised section extending further right, over the arrow key area, and have a square silver badge on that area.

As mentioned elsewhere in this thread, the metal back is the definitive sign of an F, but given that most eBay auctions and the like only show the front, knowing what to look for helps filter out a lot of stuff at a glance.

Looking for a 1387033...
