Where to buy Leopold FC210TP with correct firmware?
« on: Thu, 13 March 2014, 20:06:30 »
EK is honest enough to specify on the product page that what they have in stock sends the wrong scancode.
I think this would be the best keypad for my needs but I don't want to pay 45$US+shipping for a piece of plastic with a bad firmware in it.

Where can I get my hands on a model with the correct firmware? How can I be sure I am ordering one with the correct firmware?

Also, if it becomes too hard to find the FC210TP with the correct firmware, what should I fall back to?

What I found are the following keypads:

  • Filco    FKB22MB
  • Leopold   FC210TP
  • Keycool   22
  • Razer   Orbweaver
  • Logitech   G13
  • Kinesis   Low-force
  • Goldtouch
  • Topre   Realforce23U

From that list, I think only the Filco, Keycool and Goldtouch could make sense.

I want cherry switches.
I want an '=' key.
I want as few logos as possible.

What would you go for?

This is a interesting question, because the new firmware is relatively new, and lots of suppliers are going to have the old firmware. I know some people have gotten the new firmware on here, hopefully any of them can speak up.

Otherwise, I would guess your best bet would be an international store as close to the source as possible, so maybe TaoBao? I'm going to be in Korea in a few weeks and I've been looking into a FC210TP, I'll see if I can dig up any info when I'm there.

I got one from Qtan off Ebay because I liked the color scheme he has available and the extra keys are perfect (Esc, tab, backspace, =).  I think he ships from Guangzhou, so it would be correct to say he is near the source. In his vendor thread here on Geekhack, he claims to have tested it and it is sending the correct key codes.  I will test it when it arrives.

Some folks have been saying the new ones are sending the correct key codes, so Leopold seems to have listened to customers and done some updates on the firmware.
Wish I had some gif or quote for this space, but I got nothing

If qtan says he's tested them, that's a plus. Anyone know when his supply came in?
