Realforce 87UB/55-gram with gray/white key caps
« on: Thu, 03 April 2014, 13:20:17 »
Keyboard has been taken off the 'For-sale' list.

Realforce 87U/55-gram keyboard: black body with gray-and-white keys. This keyboard is about 4 ½ months young and has been using in conjunction with other keyboards. The keyboard is in excellent condition and has been well cared for and maintained, it’s pristine. I have the original box and accessory key caps (WASD. ESC, Caps Lock, and Control). I had planned on keeping this 87UB with white/gray key caps; but I've gotten into a different keyboard; hence, the 87UB is for sale.

I was cleaning the roof and dropped it. I put a chip in it, so I'm taking it out of the for-sale offer and adjusting the price.

Really nice looking real force with that white on black keyset.

May I ask what other keyboard you're replacing this as your main driver?
QFR brown x2, Realforce 45G, Type-S, Keycool 22 blue

Previous keyboards: 55G, IBM Model M, Dell AT101W, Fujitsu FKB4725, G80-3000 clear, QFS green, QFS blue

I re-tried an MX Red keyboard I bought in the recent past; and when I retried it, it felt just right
for me. It's going to be my daily KB. My aging digits have a preference for a light, linear switches.

To answer your question, the keyboard is a Corsair Vengeance K65--it's inexpensive and solid.
I often write for hours, and I found the heavier switches, from the SSK to the 87UB, are responsible
for finger strain during lengthy, seven- to nine-hour writing sessions. I really like the 87UB; but if I
can't use it for a days of writing without feeling the effect of the heavier key switch, it's time to sell it.

Interesting choice with that corsair. I wish more TKL MX board would include a dedicated vol knob and play/pause media button.
People use their computer to listen to music / stream video a lot.

Not sure if I'm the only one who noticed this but people will say they found xyz to be their be all end all keyboard but that will still change as you try more boards.

I agree with you 100%, lighter switches are better for long typing sessions especially for aging hands.

I really like MX brown too but I found that once you change the keycaps, especially the spacebar, it becomes less `tight'.
No matter what I tried, grease, tape, etc it still rattles a bit more than the unmodded factory condition.

So RF variable silence is now my main driver. If you haven't already, you should take a look, it is even easier on your hands than MX red/brown, especially you're hardcore with 7-8 hours of daily use.

Another upside with RF is that I can stop fantasizing about customizing my board with different keycaps etc and I stop visiting this forum as often :)

Sorry to derail this thread.

I want to buy a black one and swapped the keycap, sell the BoW and keep the WoB too but I couldn't bear going through all these buy sell cycles.

The RF with black case and white keycap is definitely worth the premium if any of you like 55g.

We don't share common ground; we share a common universe! We are at one. I, too, have grown tired of the buy-and-sell cycle. I'm  happy with this keyboard, and I believe I'll stay with this key switch. I've had my share of modding keyboards and buying one to install select parts on another. And I think, for me, I can't afford to continue to do it.

I really appreciate the volume control on the K65. When I go to youtube, I used to pull out a mouse I have with a programmed volume control or grab a keyboard with an Fn/volume control. This KB has everything I want.

I found on the Cooler Master keyboards I've owned, that when I removed the costar-stabilized switches, for whatever reason, they we a bit more wobbly when I reconnected them. I feel your frustration with the space-bar issue.

I think for many of us, the current KB or newly discovered KB is 'the best one, ever.' The newness of a KB can often color one's opinion--myself included.

I did the key cap thing on the 87U I have for sale: bought a white one and changed keys, selling the white KB, at a loss, of course; but I had to have white/gray caps--you know the allure.

It's interesting that you like the variable RF. I never tried one; if I have an opportunity, I'll have to try one. But, I'm quite enjoying these linear switches. I find no tactility to be very comfortable. I would guess the variable 87U's 30-gramn Topre switches must feel similar to a linear switch. I had a 45-gram 87U and sold it, which, in hindsight, I probably should have kept. But I was set on the 55-gram 87U.

I enjoy your responses, thanks for taking the time. We do share a similar cerebral universe. It's good to be with kindred people.

gh_pp: Pay no mind to taking the post someplace other than its original direction.
It's fine with me. And if I don't sell the keyboard, it's so good that I wouldn't mind
stowing it for a while.
