high-quality USB numeric keypad?
« on: Thu, 09 October 2008, 23:18:09 »
I suppose this is a keyboard question ... does anyone know of a high-quality USB 10-key pad?  I.e., the stand-alone kind that I could use with my HHKB whenever I'm doing bulk number entry, but perhaps with quality switches?

Is there a Happy Accounting Pro out there somewhere?

Edit:  I just found the Filco Majestouch FKB22MB, which seems to have Cherry browns.  Has anyone used this first-hand?

Home/Work:  Custom Filco FKBN87Z/EB and SGI 041-0136-001 chimera (original white ALPS, not simplified, rubber-dampened)
Gaming:  Wolfking Warrior with custom-colored layout, HHKB Lite 2 (Rubber dome)

The Cherry G80-3700LQAxx-0 is PS/2. While the Q in the Code indicates brown switches it is rated for 50 million cycles. So these are probably blacks. Not exactly what you want but probably cheaper than a Filco.

I've just recived two Filco keyboards, one of those with brown cherries. All I can say is that Filco makes wonderful stuff and that Cherry browns are smashing. Go for the filco num pad.

One Majestouch Mini with brown cherries (FKB100m/JB) and one FKB108z/JB-AB with black Alps. I'm using the mini right now and it is a treat.

I'll second the props for the Filco mini.  Absolutely stunning 'board from a quality stand point.  And those brown Cherries are a dream to type on.

Thanks for the thoughts.  I'll probably pick up one of the Filco 10-key pads in a month or so.  If people are interested, I can provide a review.

Kinesis and Goldtouch both make USB numpads out of Cherry Brown. See this for a list:

Thanks for the news, those are certainly interesting.

It makes for an interesting financial conundrum:  the Filco costs US$35, but needs to be shipped/brokered from Japan.  These are obtainable within North America for appx. US$70 (plus shipping).  I'll have to look and see if they can be found for cheaper.

Sorry I didn't make myself clear. Ergocanada is where I go to see what products are available on the market. Hence "a list". But many of these products are directly available in USA. For example, http://keyovation.com/ makes Goldtouch. USD 49+shipping, and I've seen it at even lower prices at some other stores.

I bought Goldtouch keypad recently, it is truly Cherry brown and feels great. The only thing is that the "function" key combination does NOT work in Linux or Mac. So compare to Kinesis, the only key missing in Goldtouch is the "=".
Using: Kinesis Contoured (Cherry Brown)
Own:  Realforce 86UK
Wish: Ergo layout Realforce
