Do you dangle your tangle? Mouse cord management discussion

Recently I purchased a new mouse. The cord is still in its 'trained' position as like most mice, it was secured by a bread tie in the packaging. This creates a bending pattern in cord making it more likely to snag my monitor stand, edge of mouse pad, etc.

What are some of the preferred methods for straightening out the cable to allow for free movement. Do you use a mouse cord riser or stand to facilitate this? Do you just live with it until the cable breaks itself in and is more free flowing?

Currently, I'm debating getting a cord holder -- non brand specific.

i was tempted to pick one of these up, but the reviews (on that razer one anyways) says its to light and falls over, most of the time you end up just dragging it around. Is this true? because im still on the fence about buying one.

If these mouse cord managers handled more than one cord and doubled as a USB hub it would be a no-brainer to pick one up.

Roccat makes one that doubles as USB hub, just one cord tho.

Yeah, that's an issue of the newer ones, if you get the original mouse bungee one, from before Razer bought them, they won't fall over. The pic in the OP is of the original I believe.



I usually don't need anything to keep my cord in line, although atm I'm using a wireless mouse.

I have a Roccat Apuri. In fact, two of them. I got them as USB hubs with a discount, and they work great. I wouldn't be able to justify the price of a commercially available "gaming" mouse bungee... I guess I'd make my own ghetto one instead.

My cord used to always get snagged on the back or side of my desk so I started using a mouse bungee.

I wish we had a larger selection of mouse bungee's because there's usually only 1-2 you can buy locally and only 4-5 you can readily buy online.

Razer's bungee only works (for the most part) on razer's devices. Most Steelseries and Logitech mouse cords are no go.

You can't turn off the roccat apuri's blue lights unless you leave the external power unplugged. That's really annoying and the blue light will persist even if your computer is off. You also have two additional cables (usb extension and external power) from the hub itself that you must also route so it might actually clutter your desk more. You don't have to use the external power cord though.
The biggest issue with the Apuri is that it may become unbalanced and it won't stay in place if your cables have too much tension or are heavy.

I have that generic bungee in the picture also. It's pretty good except my mouse cables always get loose around this area:

I think they should have left a bit of extra bit of room to allow the cable to flatten out because it keeps popping up/out for me.

So, when the cables are like that I just bend them as hard as I can in the other direction of the bend. Do it multiple times, and it should straighten out.

As for mouse cord holder things, I never really understood them. What I found to the be the easiest (and cheapest) is to affix the cord to back of a monitor to act as a mouse cord holder, just wrap it around one of the monitor cords or something. Then it will look like this.

This makes me wonder how easy it would be to make your own?

It would just need to be heavy with rubber feet to keep it in place, big enough to hold the left over cable, maybe have a lighter spring loaded spindle in it, and have an entrance/exit for the cable. I might just have a new project.

At work I have enough desk space that the mouse cable, bent or otherwise, just goes all over the place.

At home I tend to measure sufficient cable length for easy mouse movement, and then put a small clip to hold the mouse cable at the point where it goes down the back of the desk.  As the mouse cable straightens, I either shorten slightly the amount above the desk by pulling the cable through the clip (after loosening the clip), or just remove the clip entirely when the mouse cable can hang down the back of the desk by itself.

Yea, just get it more straight. Also, I usually make it go around the back of most of the stuff on my desk so that only correct amount of cord is left since usually there's 2-3 foot of cord I don't really need and it can get in the way if not well positioned. Never had any problem once this is done. Just make sure that the cord comes from the top of your mouse pad and it's not ever gonna get in your way.

You can use duct tape though. It's worked great on any device with LEDs so far.

Also, I use it with CM Storm Xornet, which has the heaviest cable I've seen on a mouse, and it's fine.

Yea G9x is notorious for fraying.

I'm not talking about your mouse cable, I mean usb cables attached to your other peripherals (particularly printers, scanners and the like)
The apuri will be constantly pulled towards by the heavier weight.

Oh, I've never had that problem, but that that's perhaps because I use the hub only for the mouse, a flash drive and sometimes a keyboard.

I may just end up clipping (binder clip) or just securing my cable for the meantime until it works out.

Slack is a must in my setup as I traverse my entire mouse pad which is a supermat. These cord/cable managers don't seem to be super beneficial from what I'm reading.

I'm a dangler when I'm charging my Mamba, however I used to wrap the braided USB lead around my rounded monitor stand, to prevent cable drag over the edge of my desk

Thing's got some decent weight to it, never had it sliding around on my desk.
according to the website it weighs 151g.

have it braided with my Deathadder with no issues.
I'm actually thinking of buying another one to hold my keyboard cord lol.

Maybe it's because I have enough cord available that it's not a problem? That or that I am playing on high sens? O_o
