Banished (game)
« on: Sun, 30 March 2014, 08:25:29 »
Banished on Steam.
I like this game but I'm finding it difficult in the beginning. Does anyone have any tips on this game?

How many houses I should build and what to stay away from? I get so discouraged when I think everything is ok then 3 children die of starvation =x

I usually put up a fishing post and put 2 fishermen to work it. Same with the farm. I started upgrading to stone homes asap to help with the cold. It also seems like speeding up thetime is hurting me. Any suggestions?

Make sure there are always tools. Always. As soon as you don't have enough tools anymore, your population will die very rapidly. I speak from experience :-X
If you have a school, two people for the biggest farms and cattles are enough. Check if there is still unharvested food on the fields in winter, if so you need more farmers. Make sure you have a variety of food.
If you have a town hall that is a nice way to see how much food your town produces and consumes each year, always stay in a slight plus so if somebody grows up or a baby gets born, you can still provide enough food.
To check if you should build another house, look how full your houses are. You tend to build too many imo.

I would steer clear of farms for a good few years. I usually build two fishing huts, and a hunter/gatherer/herbalist/woodsman combo in my nearest wood. Then expand into another hunter/gatherer hut combo in the next closest one. Early on, your farms won't produce the year round food that you need to grow your population. I made the mistake of moving my fishermen to my farm just before the winter and lost 25 people in one season.

Your most important resources are food - firewood - tools in that order in the early game. Depending on what difficulty you play on you should have enough tools to last you for a couple of years, so get yourself a decent food buffer before you focus on getting iron for your blacksmith.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

Your herbalist and gatherer should not be near foresters iirc. I started with hunters, gathers, fishermen and them moved on to farms.

Thanks for the tips fellas. Going to give it a shot. I totally missed the need for more tools. Which makes sense on why you need them..bigger population that has no tools to work with. Thanks much.

If you're running out of tools it can happen that even the blacksmith has no tools to make tools. So worst case is that it will completly wipe out your town. Just keep an eye on your stock.
