MX Blue switch feel without the noise?
« on: Thu, 03 April 2014, 00:21:45 »
Hi everyone, so I have a CM cherry mx switch tester. So, I really like how the cherry mx blues feel. People say that "the brown mx switch is like the blue without the audible click". I feel that is wrong. If  you remove the sound from the blue switch to me it still feels way better then the brown. Idk if its the actual click that makes it feel good but yea brown feels nothing like the blue and I really like the blue but i know the sound will get annoying. Therefore i'm asking if there's a switch that feels like the blue without the loud clicks, or is will o rings make the sound better :D. Lastly I bottom out and that's never going to change :D, thanks guys! :)

clears are similar but the click vibration is pretty unique to blues, greens, and whites

you can always go jailhouse blues or heavily lubed blues

hmm well i'm not into the mod scene so i'm thinking of just putting 0.2mm, o rings on the blues. However will 0.2mm o rings make the switch feel bad or anything and is it better to get 0.2mm o rings rather than 0.4 and thank you.

Some say that the brown feels more like a gritty red.

Well to me it kind of does. The switch is not bad itself like its a nice switch but it does feel like a gritty red, I agree.

Putting o-rings will not solve the noise problem, it will just help with the sound of bottoming out. You can somewhat silence the click by heavy lubing, although some people said that it makes the switch feel different.

Also, I don't agree with reds and browns being similar. I've had a mx red board, hated it, now I have browns, love them.

I know the "click" sounds comes when the inner white slider hits something, but I am not entirely sure what that is. I wonder if some tiny rubber padding could be put inside the switch to dampen it when it hits.

Hitting the bottom of the switch.

If you stuck something in the switch it would stop the switch from working properly.

Try tactile Alps or SMK switches (or dampened tactile Alps/Matias). They have much more snap to them than MX brown, without the click sound. Or try Topre switches, or tactile NMB “space invaders”.

I looked into the quiet alps for an alternative, but the thing is I'm into low force switches, for me anything over 50g of actuation force is to high. The alps are 60g; therefore the alps aren't a option for me as there 60g. As for topre I'm going to buy a 45g CM storm nova touch tkl board when it comes out :D. But i still think it wont give me the same feeling but I'm buying it anyways. So after I might just also buy a mx blue board and o ring it. Thanks everyone for the help really appreciate it :D.

Have you tried them? The dampened tactile Alps switches (cream colored sliders) on the Apple Extended Keyboard II aren’t tremendously much heavier feeling than MX blue. My impression is that they take about the same amount of work to actuate, since the actuation point is higher and they’re more tactile. It’s probably worth trying to measure precisely sometime.

If you still feel they’re too heavy, you can lighten them by cutting a few loops off the spring, though this is admittedly a bit of a pain.

Tactile SMK switches feel about the same weight as MX blue, but are also more tactile.
