New Razer Switches.
« on: Mon, 14 April 2014, 21:17:47 »
Recently the new Razer BlackWidow tournament edition has come back in stock with the new switches and I was just wondering if anyone has had a chance to try these new switches, more specifically the orange 45g switch? as that's as close to reds as I'm going to get within these new switches and just want to know how they compare really.

So yeah, has anyone got these new switches and tried them and if so, how do they compare to the traditional cherry switches?

They feel consistant. But what's strange is the way the keys feel vs the cherry keys. I dont really know how they pulled this off.

When it comes to this keyboard, I'm loving how it is for typing.
Dunno if i like it for gaming but the flipped Fkeys being so close is going to be great for MMORPG game play.
the keys feel odd though, but in a good way.
I dont really know how to describe it other than...
If we were comparing switches as if they were Archery,
The MX keys feel like recurve bows, reds and blues, but the razer switches feel like a the draw on a compound bow, I don't really get it. It's hard to describe. the word that comes to mind is "liquid"
It feels like the key hits the tactile point and kind of stops resisting, like pulling back on a compound bowstring.
It's odd, because the blues don't feel like this...but these keys.. they feel great for typing like.... you're typing on water...
It's a really interesting experience.

[...] I like the senstation, it reminds me of using a compound bow, it's definately not apparent when using my MX blues, and definately not there with the springs. It's really interesting.
I think my ducky will have a better feel for gaming, but the razer oranges are a typing heaven... I'm all confused inside now.
Keyboards:
Ducky Shine II 9008 Cherry MX Blue, Chinese Keycaps | Unicomp Model M(104 Classic) Buckling Spring, all grey keycaps, hand made spacebar angle riser | Razer Blackwidow Tournament Stealth 2014 Razer Orange.

Hmm, if you like those Razer switches, you might really like Topre.  Topre feel even more like what you are describing.

I'm not particularly interested in getting anymore keyboards for now.
I'll just customize the ones I have. I've gotten all that I wanted in the end, but I have to start focusing on getting back into gaming.

I'm more of an OCNer

I wanted to bring the "first look" at the new razer cash grab to geekhack, haha.

I've got to move back towards gaming, because I'm going to be playing at a hardcore level again. I'm going to trying to get into playing at a Pro level, or at least try.
Don't get me wrong I love mechanical keyboards and suggest them to EVERYONE, i come in contact with, lol.

But my priorities are changing. I'm going to be getting a naga 2014 to add to my naga collection. I'm working on keyboard and mouse guides for MMO games.

I'm just surprised at this keyboard. I expected it to feel like knock off junk after using my ducky and Model M, and I've been pleasantly surprised.

I was looking at metalic keycaps earlier though.

Might go ahead and get the one that you purchased, that's the only model that I really like the look of and that fits my current play-style and fits my needs.

Don't really like TKL keyboards, but more than willing to give this KB a go in all fairness. ^^"

The typing experience was worth the $80(90 thanks online tax) to try out.
Was an interesting surprise.

Oo an archer.

When you say compound-like, you're referring to the letoff curve? smooth (round cams), or Matthews Monster arm shredding agressive? I'm curious, because I used browns long ago, and didn't like them in the end (always resulted in bottoming out) due to that slightly sharp break point.

Switched over to linears and love them, but if you say these orange switches are higher actuation/smooth curve...

Razer Kailh switches feels all kinda wrong to me. Very stiff feeling, with a weird mush bottom out. Perhaps it is the stiffer springs.

They dont have stiffer springs...

The oranges are 45g and the greens are 50g (browns and blues respectively)
