Is it safe to clean cylinder on Topre sliders?
« on: Wed, 09 April 2014, 01:35:02 »
Hey guys,

So while I was swapping out keycaps today on my Topre, I noticed lint/dust around the cylinder of Topre sliders
60493-0
Now my question is, is it safe to clean around the cylinder with baby wipes/paper towel with water? Is there any lubrication around the cylinder that I might strip down if I clean it?

Thanks.

I did a silence mod on my FC660C, and when I had it apart, there was no lube on the sliders. I don't think you're in danger of stripping anything off. That said, be careful poking around with moisture; it can find insidious ways to sneak and and screw up your board. I would suggest using a dry Qtip, or a very, very lightly moistened one. Perhaps even better, a dry Swiffer wipe.

By the way, nice drawing  ;)

I found that drawing somewhere on this board haha. Anyway I wonder why person who drew that suggest lubricating around the cylinder if it doesn't come pre lubricated from the factory (or do they come pre lubricated?). Anyway thanks for your reply!

Probably as part of a silence mod. (I did not go to that extreme on mine, and I have since undone it, but that's another discussion.) People love to lube things, what can I say. At any rate, you should just be able to pop off a keycap and feel the slider for yourself to confirm there is no lube.

According to matt3o via Reddit, Topre sliders are very lightly lubricated. /shrug

If there is any on my FC, it is so light that I didn't detect it at all, but I just wanted to pass this along.
