Looking for some nice thick pbt blanks
« on: Tue, 22 April 2014, 13:41:22 »
Hey there,

Looking for somewhere that I can get a nice set of thick pbt blanks that won't cost the earth. Preferably DSA, but at this point I am not fussy.
Also don't really care too much about colour, but a good selection would be nice.

Missed out on Ivan's group buy, otherwise that would have been fantastic.

Cheers,

Only SA is thick, but it's hard to find in PBT, unless from their leftover inventory... $1/keycap is a bit steep though.

Had a look at signature plastics, might end up getting some of these (http://keyshop.pimpmykeyboard.com/product/dsa-pbt-blank-sets) if I can't find anything else.

Couldn't find anything similar to what I'm looking for on Bangood, I will look into Taobao though.

Thanks for the help guys!

Just beware that DSA is thin, uniform profile (you perhaps already know that) and PITA to remove from switches, especially w/ MX Clear stems (high risk of accidental opening switches).

IIRC IvanIvanovich organized a Cherry blank POM GB, that might be close to what you want.

Thanks for the input, I am pretty new around here and never even thought about that. I just thought they looked nice and didn't consider the consequences.

When you say that "DSA is thin", what do you mean by this? e.g. Thick DSA is thinner than thick DCS?
Or do thick DSA sets just not exist?

Cheers

Try classifieds. There are ALWAYS people selling PBT blanks.

i wouldn't call dsa thin.

at worst it's medium.  and that's trashing it pretty bad, especially for the price.

DCS....now THAT is thin.

It's thick enough not to bend between fingers like DCS or WASD's OEM caps, but nowhere near thick Cherry. I've never seen any thicker DSA, definitely not in the blank sets they sell for about $40. Moreover, it feels cheap to me for the price, although it's *not* nearly as cheap as lasered Cherry.
