Having trouble coming back to 75% red boards?
« on: Wed, 14 May 2014, 13:31:41 »
Hey guys, so here's my problem, maybe some of you have also had the same issue and what not.

I've been typing on the Razer Orange switch for a good few weeks now and if you're unaware, the orange switch is closest relate-able to the Brown switch. That was a TKL board /w oranges, but after a while, I started to miss my 75% board and the red switches, so I came back to my trusted old companion the Noppoo choc mini and for the most part it's alright, I type fine and what not, but then when I'm typing at much faster speeds and what not and trying to get something written out quickly, the typing errors ensue and it's just a mild annoyance more than anything else.

I know that obviously because of my typing speed, my accuracy while typing is going to be less and less, but I didn't really seem to run into this on my Razer board, I'm not sure why this was,  maybe it was the switch, the keycaps, the board or maybe a combination of all three.

So I guess my question to all of you 75% board users out there is -- Have you ever experienced a similar problem to this? like have you reverted to a different board for a few weeks, a few months or whatever and then you start to miss your old main driver, you switch back and then you are making more typo's than before or whatever?

I'd love to know!

I rotate my daily driver at home fairly frequently (probably every week or two) and I don't have this issue. Maybe it's because I always have a lot of typos in general though.

I try to swap keyboards every lunch time, it's a great way of improving your ability to adapt to new boards.

Edit - if you get a new board, I'd recommend sticking with it a few days, otherwise you'll be prolonging things.

It's a bit like getting used to a different car. My step dad used to drive for an auction company and would collect cars from all over the country once or twice a week. He could get into pretty much any car and drive off at least as well as the owner. He even liked left hand drive cars.

<Puts on flame-retardant suit>

It could just be the Red switches... Although the tactile bump on Browns and Razer Orange switches is small, it really does help to prevent unwanted keypresses.

Or it could be the layout, if your eye references the top edge of the main area as `123, instead of F1->F4, etc. it could cause you to mistype at high speed, by confusing the visual reference point.

IIRC, can't you adjust the debounce time on a Choc Mini? That may help, too, if it's creating double presses or skipping fast presses.

What kind of errors are you getting? Incorrect letters or two keys pressed at once due to positioning? Or keys not registering or double characters? Or just extra keypresses of incorrect keys?

That will help a lot to figure out what is causing it.
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

No but I recommend that you should get yourself checked by a psychatrist. It might be a serious issue.

lol I don't think people will flame you for it, because I actually think that's the issue too.

I've been using mx red for a long time but I still think mx brown is easier to type.

But mx red is still the best gaming switch unmatched.  :)
