Yes the solenoid driver should be add Extra Loud Click with Small Blinking LIght very nicely to your 3178. You can't power it directly from the controller, as it wants 9V and many milliamps, which is what the solenoid driver board does.

I have a 3178 also... completely different board though... like this:

My actual keyboard is here, with terrible pictures: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=50437.msg1148666#msg1148666

Have iron, will solder

Wow! Crazy board with the manual air-wires and diodes. The even crazier thing is that your board has the same manual hand-soldered wires and diodes! These must be pretty low-volume stuff for IBM to have bothered with that (and not just had a new board made).

As far as I can see it has the same pinout as the other 3178 controller, so you should be home and hosed with the little adapter board.

Do you want to build it yourself or go on the group buy? Let me know either way—these boards look cool, I wish I had one!

I think I'd like to get the parts to get this board working

What are the details of the Group Buy at this point?  I looked back through the thread and had a little bit of trouble keeping track.  Does this controller work for a Model F XT also?
:wq!

All you need is in the first post of these threads: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=58192.0 and http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=58138.0

I'm closing off the group buy on June 1st so I can get confirmations and then order the bits in.

An XT won't work, as you can't remove the controller (it's built into the board). It would work if you were to cut up your PCB however.
