Looking for a cheap keyboard
« on: Wed, 04 June 2014, 14:39:32 »
First of all I would like to say Hi!!! to all forum members. It's my first post!!! (I've been reading though for a long time)

This is my problem. I'm on a tight budget. I'm used to Logitech ultrax premium (had it for ages), but sadly it's time has passed.

So I'm for a similar keyboard. The requirements would be as follows: it should have a metal backplate (like the ultrax) - this is a must, it should be responsive like the ultrax, scissor switch or rubber dome (as long it's a relatively good RD), should be aprox. 30-40$. Any suggestions.

p.s. keyboard is for typing purposes mainly. I play mainly Counter strike source, any I can bunny hop with almost all keyboards (with no cheats of course).

I found several other forums with people asking the same thing just by googling the name of the keyboard. Apparently a lot of people liked that keyboard.

Here's one with some suggestions: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=61769

Not sure about that price range, but in the past I've heard people say good things about the Logitech PerfectStroke keyboards.

No help there.

I really do not understand what's wrong with the people there at Logitech. First they pull this with the mx300 mouse (took them some 10 years to pull out a replacement in the form of g100s), now the same with this keyboard. If only I had the good sense to buy some more when I had the chance ($35 retail looks like a pretty sweet deal to me right about now).

I tried to borrow a cm storm keyboard with mx browns today, and i simply think it's no better (the price is a multiple of course)...

For RD I really like my sidewinder x4.  Maybe not as crisp as some RD, but has over 6kro (I think I tested up to 8 or 12 with multiple key combinations).  Red backlighting is easy on the eyes and brightness can be adjusted.  Not sure if it had a metal backplate...think my brother has it somewhere currently.  I got mine for 40 shipped new.  Loved it for gaming but now I'm an MX guy.

Speaking of MX, if you go that route (I know you said scissor and RD only), a new QFR can be found on sale almost quarterly for around 60 usd.  Check classifieds to maybe get it cheaper, or any board.  Ghost black (a modded switch with black stem and clear spring) mx is GOD TIER for FPS.  Buttery smooth and cushiony and not heavy at all to reach actuation (very heavy to bottom out.)  You can source parts to make a modded but case less QFR for under 50.
