Custom row 4 (number row) keycaps with F/J tactile bump
« on: Thu, 03 November 2011, 18:29:20 »
Does anyone know if these exist? I have a cherry tenkeyless board and I'd like to have home row stype bumps on my 4 and 7 keys.

If they don't exist, is anyone aware of a good way to add such bumps to existing keycaps?

Thanks!

My first thought is that if you're willing to get a whole set of custom keycaps to contact WASD, they can probably do that for you.  Or just those two keys, but depending on what keys you have now it might look a little weird.
Filco Majestouch-2 with Cherry Corp. doubleshot keys - Leopold Tenkeyless Tactile Force with Wyse doubleshots - Silicon Graphics 9500900 - WASD V1 - IBM Model M 52G9658 - Noppoo Choc Pro with Cherry lasered PBT keycaps - Wyse 900866-01 - Cherry G80-8200LPBUS/07 - Dell AT101W - several Cherry G81s (future doubleshot donors) (order of current preference) (dang I have too many keyboards, I really only need two)

I think you can get individual keycaps now, and if all you want is two keys (with a font that's already there) then it should be pretty inexpensive.

Problem is it'd be the home row (r2?) profile.

good point, I didn't think of that.  Yeah, that would be a deal killer for me, although it would make those keys stand out even more!

You could do the whole row, and it wouldn't look bad.

4 and 7 are where I put my click clack keys. Very useful for touch typing numbers.

I didn't get that at all until I looked at my QWERTY-layout. Still Why RVUM? just so you know where your forefinger needs to go on the row?

Here are some options?

http://keyshop.pimpmykeyboard.com/products/specialty-keys/dcs-custom-control-sets

those aren't row 4

OP didn't specify row preference, and why would you want row 4 homing keys?
Its right there in the thread title.

As to why he wants it? beats me. Probably some cool layout / gaming idea.

I have a Cherry doubleshot set that has a nub on the numrow 5... closest thing I have seen to what you are asking for. If you don't mind a bit of diy there are some things you can do like push a tiny round head finishing nail into the keycap like was done on this customized keyboard for the blind...
