It has been near 2 years since I bought my first mechanical keyboard (Noppoo Choc Mini 84) and I've tried many mech keyboards. However, I've never feel like writing a review about a keyboard like this time.
Although there're already two threads (if I'm not counting them wrong) about the new Das Keyboard 4, I think it will still useful to have one more here.
Please let me know if you can't see the images. I use sina weibo albums instead of usual imgur albums because imgur is unavailable from my country at the moment.
The Package of the Keyboard is pretty simple and elegent. The one I bought is with brown switch so it is colored brown and white with a large image of the keyboard on front side. I guess it will be blue and white theme if carrying blue switch.
Unlike the old Das series, new Das Keyboard 4 doesn't provide red switch version at the moment. Only brown and blue.
On the back side there is some information about the keyboard that I think is kind of useless for GH keyboard users.
The accessories contain a ruler, a thin paper that tells you how to switch between 6KRO and NKRO and... that's all? Yea that's all.
Seriously, I'm super disappointed when I purchased a 170 dollar "Badass" mechanical keyboard and didn't even get a keycap-puller with it.
The build quality of the keyboard, however, it pretty good. It is definately among the most solid keyboards of my collection.
With the anodic aluminum top panel, just looking at the keyboard is already a great pleasure. For the ultimate version, the media keys and Das logo on the top right are all with black legend, which is kind of similar with RF87UB.
)
Before getting the keyboard, I was worried about the feel of the media keys. Although they are all rubber dome, the pressing feeling of the media keys are very comfortable. And the sound volume wheel feels even better.
The keycaps' hight is another thing I don't like about this keyboard. OEM profile just feels way too high for this new design. I think I'm going to find a set of IMSTO Cherry profile keycaps for replacement later.
Last thing I think worth mentioning is, Das Keyboard 4 uses cherry-stabilizer on spacebar and costar-stabilizer on other long keys. This is very new design that I've never seen before. (correct me if I'm wrong
) I know both stabilizers have their pros and cons but this is a very clever design in my opinion because most of the "not firm feeling" complains about costar stabilizer are from the spacebars.
Conclusion:
+Very solid feel and nice typing experience
+Anodic aluminum top panel which is a lot better than the glossy one as before IMO
+Media Keys and USB 2.0 Hubs
-A bit expensive
-The build quality of the ruler is bad
-Almost no accessories
-OEM profile
