Sell me on the show. Always thought about watching it but never got around to it.
OK, I'll try. First I'll start by saying I'm not really a David Lynch fan, I've seen Mulholland Drive and thought it was a load of pretentious ****.
That being said, (yeah yeah,) the show is so offbeat that it kept me coming back for more and before I knew it I was hooked. The characters are all interesting and have odd idiosyncrasies that make each person in Twin Peaks unique and gives them room to breath on their own, not just as a background character. It's a very odd mix of a parody of soap operas, comedy, and film noire. Personally I can't really compare it to anything else on network television, in fact, I can't believe it actually got picked up for prime time let alone a second season and a movie. It's odd, off putting, homey, and ploddingly detailed in a manner that only someone like Lynch can pull off without people questioning. There are scenes where you will question the direction, but then you remember who directed it and you ponder upon the scene in question until you come to your own solid conclusion.
I would say give it the first 3 episodes, and if you don't find yourself getting sucked into the universe of Twin Peaks you'll never like the show. It's something indescribable, something you need to watch yourself and come to your own judgments about. Niche is the word of the day.
