Dishwasher Compatible: Apple Extended Keyboard II M3501

Your Apple Extended Keyboard II, M3501 (Mitsumi switches) are compatible in the dishwasher, provided that you:

  • Do NOT wash the printed circuit board
  • Do NOT run a 'heated drying cycle'
  • Put your keycaps in a closable accessory bin (Usually on the silverware seperator)
  • Try and wash the front and rear bezel on the top rack.

These instructions apply to *my* dishwasher. YMMV.

Yours,
Perry

We need the exact type and date of your dishwasher!

Can you provide some pictures?

Does it have mechanical switches on its front panel?

Thanks!

The model I have is a Maytag JetClean Quiet Plus, circa 2006-2007. The buttons are chiclet. Here is a link to the image:

The water does not reach boiling temp, however, with the AccuTemp setting, it does sanitize.

How is this important news at all?

I do all the plastic bits all the time in my dishwasher. Always in the top, just like any regular old plastic non-disposable cup.

chiclet 2006 are the best among all the DW buttons available on the market. Not much tactile but nice landing feeling.

Chiclet FTW

Yes, I washed a couple Mitsumi Amiga keyboards in the dishwasher a few years ago. I didn't even have to take off the keycaps. The whole assembly comes off the circuit board in one piece. It was the easiest keyboard cleaning I ever did.

I like the tactile metal ones. Like always, vintage is best:

I figured this might be good information for a new mech keyboard user, or some good fodder for a datasheet :)
