[WTB] IBM Model M singular replacement caps
« on: Thu, 13 November 2014, 23:41:24 »
This is more of a inquiry but is there anyway I could buy model M keycaps on their own? I am looking at buying a model M but its missing 2 caps (Obviously I don't want to buy a whole keycap set). The keyboard I'm looking at uses the 2 piece keycaps with the blank and then the actual keycap ontop.

What keys are you looking at? Postage from Unicomp to Australia is pretty standard in that I don't think they give discounts, its still like $20. I just got a bunch but they screwed my order so I have submitted a ticket to get the keys sorted. If you tell me what keys you need I will see if they will chuck them in with my order. (they are like 80c each and look rather different from the originals in that colour is slightly off and printing is usually a bit more thicker (if that bothers you, because it kills me).

PM me if you are interested (I am in western suburbs)

Alternatively ebay sometimes has individual keys being sold (from the US)

Thanks for all the help guys. Yeah, if they don't look quite right, I'll probably shoot myself in the foot in frustration! I'll look at clicky keyboards but it seems a neighbour of mine (whom I discovered on reddit then found out he lives in my building lol) might be able to source me some original caps from a donor board. If that doesn't work out, I'll go down the clicky keyboards path but their shipping isn't terribly cheap. And by isn't terribly cheap I mean 10 times the price of 2 keycaps. It costs 29 dollars to ship to Australia for 3 dollars worth of caps. What the heck! :(

I should be able to help you. Tell me what keycaps you need. If I can spare them, it's $1 each keycap and $1 for shipping. All payable to geekhack (ie my price is a geekhack donation).

It is human effort that makes this world small.

Look at how geekhackers came together to help out pasph after he was cheated, and you can just feel that nice tingly warm feeling inside!
