When you roam the internet looking for custom keyboards information, all roads lead here. So here I am. I must say it is fascinating to see how deep the subject can get and I am excited to be educated while reading the various posts and obviously by asking naive questions that have probably been answered a million times. Thanks for having me.

i would have wrote something similar upon joining, but i never even introduced myself. barging in uninvited is way more fun, and people gradually accept the fact that they're sharing the same forum with a wiener dweeb anyway
welcome~

Your story sounds so familiar. Oh yeah, b/c that's how I got here. Dang interwebs searches.

Welcome to Geekhack!
You don't know the half of it - just try asking someone about Alps switches
At least there are a few nice, reliable manufacturers that filter to the top all the time - makes it easy to get started with something.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
