Keycaps for WASD V2?
« on: Fri, 14 November 2014, 19:28:16 »
While deciding on a  new keyboard, I've realized the barebones version of the WASD is $50 less then with their own keys. So if I can find a decent set of 3rd party keys that are better then the WASD keys, I come out ahead.  :)

I hate an all-black keyboard, my current keyboard is white alphas w/ light grey modifiers (like the old IBM keyboards). For my new keyboard, I'd prefer white alpha's with either red or blue or green modifiers, similar to these keys.

Without wanting to go overboard with $150 of keycaps, any ideas?

I see the two-color Vortex PBT keys (like I linked above), but aren't thrilled with the font/layout of the lettering.

Do you think I could piece together two sets, like this white PBT set and this blue ABS, or would it look or feel odd? Or maybe just do the all-blue doubleshots for everything.

Any other recommendations for good, but cost effective caps? Preferably two-tone if possible. No rainbows or other crazyness please.

The Vortex PBT keycaps are good and they come in two-tone variations

I'm using the Leopold set mentioned above on my WASD V2 TKL and I'm loving it so far. They feel really good.

If you would like to try out DSA, I would take a look at the blanks on pimpmykeyboard.

Anyone gotten these two-tone green keycaps from Aliexpress? Is Aliexpress reliable/trustworthy?

Can't figure out who to differentiate between the green and red on their website though.

I don't know about Aliexpress, but Tai Hao keycaps are quite reasonable, considering how little you pay for them.

There has been one Tai Hao GB already, a second is currently in progress, and a third is planned.  So they can't be all that bad!

Found these also...from ebay. Widebasket seems to be reputable from what I've seen here.

Blue/white two-tone ABS

Quite a few people have bought mainly Topre keycap sets from Widebasket.

Actually both of those listings you have linked have a much higher price than the GBs.  The first GB was around $9.50.  The second was, er, $12 or $15.

Not in those colours though, although there is an IC for the next Tai Hao GB colour.

Yeah, I saw those GB's when I was searching. Might have to wait a while.  :'(
