Hello fellow geekhackers, long time lurker first time poster here.
I recently bought a used Realforce 87U. The board was advertised as 45gr but once i got it i pretty quickly noticed that some of the keys felt kind of mushy. The thing that i find a bit weird is that the mushy keys 6 in total are not where one would expect them to be (the "pinky" keys)
The keys that feel mushy are F8, F9, F12 Backspace, A and delete. A couple of other keys feel somewhat lighter but not by that much. I ended up taking the keyboard apart and moving the mushy domed to positions that i rarely use (Scroll Lock, Num Lock, Pause etc)
I did some searching online and found pictures of the innards of variable weight Realforces and what i found was that the domes are divided into separate sections for 1qaz, 2wsx etc but in my case all of those keys where only one large section. This has left me a bit confused. It really does not help that the sticker on the board says EK45 but the sticker on the box says SE170S.
My conclusion is that someone must have switched the original case for a EK45 one and also moved around a few of the domes, but if that is the case, how come there are no separate 1qaz, 2wsx sections?
I really like typing on the board (once I moved the mushy domes) but I'm thinking about getting another board for work and I a bit curious of what kind of board I actually have?
