Jacco, your last two photos really sold it for me; ebony it is!

Any problems with the finish feeling smooth?

The oil finish on them does not seem to be very high quality. Mine is already wearing off in the area where my palms rest. :(

EDIT: I'll take some pics of it real quick

Glad to be of service. ;)

I'm not using mine right now. Noko's wrist rest is all I need right now. :P
I bought it because they were so cheap and I wanted another wrist rest for a second computer. But I agree with Billnye29, the oil finish is not that good. You can easily fix that with some oil of your own though.

I'm not too familiar with wood working; would it be as easy as to find some sort of wood finisher oil and fix it?

If anyone is pro at this, do give tips please :D

EDIT: I'll take some pics of it real quick

Oil finishes should not wear off.  Oil finishes penetrate the wood and start to harden in the wood over time.  They may need a polishing from time to time, but shouldn't wear off.  If it's wearing off, it's likely some sort of wax finish, be it beeswax or paste wax, which require reapplication from time to time with frequent use.  It could also be a Danish oil which is a varnish oil blend that's supposed to use Tung oil, but most use BLO.  The varnish can start to wear through.

If you're willing to darken up the wood a little, I'd get a true Tung oil (most are BLO) or Deft Danish oil.  You'll want to strip the finish off first if it has a varnish, lacquer, shellac, or wax finish.  If you want a harder finish, General Finishes Arm-R-Seal is a fantastic wipe on PU finish.  If you want something warmer, shellac is nice.  You can adjust the color by buying different color shellac flakes and mixing your own.

Thanks Nubs! I'll try adding a new finish. :)
