GMK Pad Print (Is this normal?)

So I bought one of them fancy GMK Cyrillic sets a while back.
Love it!
3 months down the line, the red on the "W" is starting to rub off.
I guess I didn't notice wear on the beige GMK set I have since there isn't any pad print on it.
I was under the impression that GMK coats their keys with a special coat of something fancy.
So my question is, is it normal for the pad print to wear off so soon?

Sorry, now you're learning. That's why I don't buy GMK or fancy stuff.

GMK doubleshots are still ABS doubleshots.
GMK custom legends are still pad printed and subject to limitations of the technology.

I think the only reasons to buy GMK is for the superior/ more accurate tooling and thicker keycaps. Apart from the thicker keycaps, GMK doesn't magically last longer than Tai Hao just because you paid them more money.

Maybe that is a bit fast, but it depends on how heavy use and your body chemistry and skin texture how fast it will wear off. That stuff varies from person to person. It is inevitable though...

While it is my fault for not researching about pad print, typing on Tai Hao and typing on gmk/cherry is nowhere NEAR the same.
I have a couple of Duckies at work with Tai Haos (Dolch and Granite from the latest Harry GB). Aside from the look (which is not on the same level) the feel, sound and profile are not the same.
Similar to PBT. I bought a cheap pbt set (the thin vortex one with the funky fonts) and then later on down the road I bought a set of IMSTO and the feeling is night and day.

They do add a protective clear coating. If you look at the top from angle you should be able to see it's outline running just inside the top edge of the cap. It adds further resistance to wear but does not make it indestructible. It's the reason I made side pad printing instead of top printing for the GB legends on my Dolch buy.

I've heard this before, and I guess I just don't and will never understand.

I have used (and still own) keycaps and keycap sets of all kinds. And while some do indeed feel and sound different (different is greatest when using stock blue switches), the difference is minimal (at least to me) when using clears, and pretty much non consequentional when using my jailhouse blues. 

So I think it's very much a question of personal opinion. There are some people on this site who absolutely hate Tai Hao, so much that they sold at 50% loss within minutes of touching the keycaps. And there are some people who don't care about the dif.

ME, I couldn't care less even about Razer keycaps in terms of thin ABS. (What I dislike is Razer's font and the generally cheap, ugly look.)

The subjectivity on this topic never ceases to amaze me. I do not like linear switches, and it so happens that all my favorite makes and brands are totally obsessed with linears and will never produce a single tactile or clicky keyboard. That's my great pain. I have to desolder them all and I hate desoldering so much.

I agree. Personally I can't stand SP or TaiHao caps, they just feel like cheap garbage to me.

You get what you pay for, but Tai Hao is much higher quality than you would expect for the price.

I agree. Personally I can't stand SP or TaiHao caps, they just feel like cheap garbage to me.

+1. I don't see the point of buying SP (other than SA and maybe their DSA if you like them). Buy something nice with that money instead. Although I did not like the quality of the taihao caps, if you want some inexpensive colorful double shots to replace stock caps, go nuts. For the price they can't be beat.
