Which RGB Cherry MX keyboards in TKL or smaller are coming soon?
« on: Wed, 10 December 2014, 02:53:33 »
Now that we have RGB Cherry MX switches that allow per key LED color to be customized via software, I no longer have any intetest in keyboards with fixed back-lit LED color, or fixed per key LED customization such as the one offered by MAX, since they lack freedom in customization.

Right now, we only have Corsair and Razor's oferings, but they are either only full-size or only have one switch type (I can't stand it when a desirable keyboard is only available in one switch type/color. That makes no business sense to me).

Anyway, do you guys know what TKL or smaller RGB Cherry keyboards with multiple switch color choices are coming soon?

Razer isn't using Cherry.

Right now, Corsair has an exclusivity deal with Cherry so only they have access to Cherry's RGB-led-compatible switches.  Razer uses Chinese Kailh switches, which are based on Cherry's designs.  With possible Cherry shortages in the near future it's possible we may see more Kailh switch keyboards pop-up, though as far as I know, no one else has plans on releasing an RGB-led MX-compatible keyboard.

A bunch of these (Kailh switch RGB) are already out, though...Tesoro Lobera Supreme, Rosewell RGB80 (and variants with Xenics and Qpad branding), and V-OX G11, to name a few. More are coming out all the time...for instance, it looks like the upcoming Apex Mech from Steelseries will probably use Kailh for RGB lighting.

Sadly, none of them match what I'm looking for (TKL, blue switch, individual LED color customization). The Rosewell RGB80 currently does not allow individual key LED color--only entire keyboard at a time. Supposedly a software update will rectify this, but who knows when the update will happen.

Once MX RGB is opened up to the public, there will definitely be some custom PCBs that make use of this.
Just have patience.

So the Corsair exclusive contract has an expiration date?

Was only supposed to be one year so the end of 2014, but who knows how long it will take for the rgb switches to spread. Originally corsair was supposed to have the rgb keyboard out like around june, july-ish but they had delays and software problems(not 100% worked out yet, minor bugs not big ones) to fix. This destroyed the exclusive year corsair was supposed to get with rgb's and reduced the remaining time to when it was just released like a month or two ago to the end of 2014.

Early 2015. As told to me by a Ducky rep at i53 this summer.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?
