Hi All! My first finished board is a G710+
« on: Sat, 21 February 2015, 21:04:32 »
Hey everyone! I'm very new to the scene and I decided I would share my recently finished Logitech G710+ with White Vortex Keys, some Rosewill red rubber keycaps and a little cherry love ;)
Wanted to post also because I don't see too many people modding the G710+ probably because of its weird bottom row sizing as well as it's (6.5) space bar. Had to mod the vortex (6.25) space bar to get it on but it was well worth it!

Welcome to Geekhack!

The non-standard bottom row, plus the macro keys, plus the extra keys across the top, make it kinda difficult to completely customise.

But yours' looks quite good!  Black, red and white seem to go really well together!

+1 for getting `~ the correct colour, but -1 for the \|.  It should also be white :p

Nice Cherry sticker too :)

Thanks for the feedback/welcome, yea I was wondering how high to bring the black keys ( / ) I also wanted to make the left side white to make the red wasd pop more... There's still time!

You missed one important detail - what switches are hiding beneath the caps?

It looks good anyway, welcome :)

It appears posts here don't count - I'm counting down to 400 and this didn't help :))

How do you get on with them?

The keys (Vortex) feel great themselves they have a nice slightly textured feel and look great when both illuminated and not. The rosewill rubber keys were quite surprising in quality, I love the rubber feel. At first it was quite a worry, however I found that the only time I feel the difference on the wasd keys is if I'm resting on them. When typing I can't tell the difference in material.

The red o-rings give the keys a really luxuriously feeling squishy bounce at the end of the keys travel, as opposed to the black o-rings that came with it that felt less bouncy and also reduced travel. Over all I love the keyboard. The only things I really don't like about it are the orange coloring that I had to cover in black, the weird key sizing, and sometimes I hit a function key rather than Ctrl or ESC by mistake. Something I think might just be happening because I'm not used to it.

I rememberr almost pulling the trigger in purchasing one of these before I found GH. What do you think of it's glossy finish btw?

Little of it has a glossy finish, only the lip around the main keys (some space around the arrow keys) and the bright orange lip around the function keys... Which I painted flat black so that's no longer glossy. Yea, I would say it doesn't bother me at all and I'm one who really hates glossy electronics.

I hate glossy because of how easily it attracts dirt and fingerprints.

Right, I hate it for those same reasons and it also tends to make things look cheap... However I don't find that the spaces around the edges are even large enough to see fingerprints stand out and I don't find myself touching the little open spaces (ie where I put the cherry MX logo).

Yup. Thought it did well to cover the stock G710+ logo that was there.

Posts in new members, classifieds and off topic do not count towards your official post count (although you can still see how many posts you have made in total in your profile details).
